Pokemon GO - Best Mega Gengar Counters (July 2021) | Game Rant
GO Fest 2021 has come to a close, but that doesn't mean there aren't still Raids raging on, Pokemon to catch, and rewards to unlock in the mobile AR game. The remainder of July 2021 is still going to be a very busy time in Pokemon GO thanks to the Ultra Unlock Reward activities and other scheduled events and special Battle Raids.
Players who didn't get their fill of Battle Raids during GO Fest day 2 can still find some exciting bosses appearing at Gyms this week. Pokemon GO players have until Friday, July 23 to battle Mega Gengar, so players who haven't crossed that off the list yet should prepare their optimal counter roster and get to work to collect that Mega Candy.
Mega Gengar is a Ghost/Poison-type, which means that it has a lot of potential weaknesses players can try to capitalize on. The best strategies will be rosters built from strong Dark-, Psychic-, Ghost-, and Ground-types. That presents a lot of options to explore (including some new Mega opportunities), so most players should be able to form a very powerful counter roster from the options below...
Mega Gengar - Lick/Shadow Ball
Mewtwo - Psycho Cut/Psystrike
Houndoom (Mega) - Snarl/Foul Play
Giratina (Origin) - Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball
Darkrai - Snarl/Dark Pulse
Landorus - Mud Shot/Earth Power
Metagross - Zen Headbutt/Psychic
Excadrill - Mud Slap/Drill Run
Espeon - Confusion/Psychic
Groudon - Mud Shot/Earthquake
As always, players should keep in mind that this Battle Raid is still doable even if they don't have a roster built exclusively from the top tier counters. It's great to make the strongest roster possible, but the real key is to know the boss' weaknesses and enter the Battle Raid with a large enough group to basically guarantee success. For this Mega Raid, it is recommended to stick with 5-6 other trainers who are using the proper counters and are aware of the best strategies for the fight. Trainers may want to consider spending some Stardust, Elite TMs, and Candy ahead of time to give their roster as much of an edge as possible. Ensuring that the raid is a success and a Raid Pass isn't wasted on the attempt is always a priority, so each member of the party should do as much as they can to ensure the effort is a success.
In the coming weeks, we should learn more about what other events will be arriving during the rest of the Season of Discovery. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
