Pokemon GO: Where to Find Chikorita | Game Rant
Pokemon GO is currently celebrating its anniversary this year with a special event. This event has players able to encounter many of the starter Pokemon found throughout the series as well as capture them for their own collections. Players can find all of the starter Pokemon from the first generation to the sixth in large quantities up until July 15th at 8:00 PM in players' local times.
One of the Pokemon some players may be searching for in Pokemon GO is Chikorita. It is the Grass-type starter Pokemon from the Johto region, and it and can evolve into Bayleef via 25 Chikorita candies. Bayleef then can evolve into Meganium through the usage of 100 more Chikorita candies. This means that players that want a Meganium will have to stock up on a whole lot of candies.
Unlike many of the other starter Pokemon during the anniversary event, Chikorita can't be normally found among the increased wild Pokemon spawn rates. Instead, players will have to use another method in order to make sure they find some Chikorita candies for the event's Collection Challenge. Some lucky players may even find a shiny Chikorita during their encounters.
In order to get Chikorita to spawn during the anniversary event, players need to use a lure on a PokeStop. Because of the event, all lures last an hour, making it easier to catch lure-exclusive Pokemon. Chikorita isn't the only starter Pokemon that can be spawned in the overworld with lures during the event, however. Other starter Pokemon include Cyndaquil, Totodile, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. If players want to make it more likely for Chikorita to appear, it is recommended that they use a Mossy Lure instead of a normal one.
While lures are the main method for obtaining Chikorita during this event, there is another way to catch one. This can be done by spinning PokeStops and getting the event field research task "Use five Berries to help catch Pokemon". Completing this task with give players an encounter with either Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. However, there is no way to influence which of the three will be the reward encounter. No other field research task given at this time can give players a Chikorita encounter, either.
After evolving Chikorita all the way up to Meganium, it will still remain a pure Grass-type Pokemon. This means that Meganium is weak to Fire, Flying, Poison, Bug, and Ice-type moves while also resisting damage from Water, Grass, Electric, and Ground-type moves.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS.
