The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD: How To Complete The Fledge's Workout Side Quest
Fledge is one of the very first characters that players are introduced to in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, with Link having to step in and help the scrawny Knight Academy student to move some barrels to the kitchen before heading over to the Wing Ceremony to embarrass Groose and his pals. This motivates Fledge to get in shape, but he once again needs Link's assistance to achieve his goal.
Though it's possible to begin the side quest immediately after completing the Lanayru Mining Facility dungeon, players won't actually be able to complete it until much later in the game. With that in mind, some players may prefer to wait a while so as to be able to get it all out of the way in one fell swoop rather than having to return to Fledge's room multiple times.
After visiting the Lanayru Mining Facility and defeating Moldarach, players will start to see Fledge wandering around outside near Skyloft's plaza area. If they speak with him, he'll mention that he wants to get in shape and has been working out in secret to avoid ridicule from some of the more cynical Knight Academy students.
At this point, Link can visit Fledge's room at the Knight Academy and sleep until nighttime to begin the quest. The young hero will awake to find Fledge struggling to do a single push-up and decides to offer his friend a few words of encouragement. Unfortunately, Fledge needs much more than words at this point, so Link is going to need to find something stronger to help whip the little weakling into shape.
In order for Fledge to start making progress, players will need to give him a bottle of the newly available stamina potion. This green potion can be purchased from Luv at the Skyloft bazaar and will set players back 50 Rupees. It's not exactly cheap, but most will probably see it as a small price to pay in order to help out a friend in need.
With a bottle of stamina potion now in their Adventure Pouch, players should return to Fledge's room at night. He'll notice that Link has a stamina potion in his possession and ask whether he can have it to replenish his energy. If the player agrees, he'll quickly gulp it down and then carry on with his workout. For now, at least, there's nothing more to be done.
Once players have completed Lanayru Desert's Silent Realm and obtained the Clawshot, they'll be able to check in on Fledge once more and will find that he's starting to make some progress. Granted, he's still struggling to do more than 100 pushups, but he's a lot further along than he was when Link first got involved. He still has a long way to go though, so players should give him another stamina potion and then continue on their way.
Though some players may be curious to see how Fledge is getting on, there's no point in checking in on him again until after completing the Sandship dungeon. At this point, returning to his room at night will reveal a completely different Fledge who is able to do thousands of pushups with relative ease. He'll attribute much of his success to Link's help and encouragement and hand over five Gratitude Crystals as a way of saying thanks.
It's worth noting that players can complete all three stages of the quest at once if they wait until this point or later in the story to get started. All they'll need to do is take two stamina potions to Fledge's room at night and then sleep in his bed until the following nighttime after giving him each of the potions. When approached this way, the side quest can be completed in under three minutes.
Much like the Fixing Fun Fun Island side quest, completing Fledge's workout will unlock a special mini-game. It involves Link using his bow to shoot pumpkins to earn points and can be played by speaking to Fledge outside the Knight Academy sparring hall once his side quest has been turned in. It costs 20 Rupees to play and there are a number of prizes on offer, one of which is a piece of heart.
The rules are relatively straightforward, with Link being given 90 seconds to shoot the pumpkins that Fledge tosses into the air. He'll receive 10 points for each pumpkin that he hits, and hitting consecutive pumpkins will build up a multiplier, which can go as high as five for a total of 50 points per pumpkin. Every once in a while Fledge will throw a sparkling pumpkin, which is worth twice as many points as a regular one.
If Link scores between 150 and 390 points, Fledge will give him 50 Rupees as a prize. If he gets between 400 and 590 points, however, Link will instead receive an Eldin Ore, an Ancient Flower, or a Dusk Relic. In order to get the piece of heart, platers will need to set a record by scoring 600 points or higher. After obtaining the heart piece, Fledge will instead give link either a Goddess Plume, a Blue Bird Feather, or a Golden Skull for repeating this feat.
Though far from the best way of farming Rupees, the mini-game is a lot of fun to play and a great way to pass the time. Players shouldn't have too much trouble scoring 600 points, but, if they do, it's possible to aim at the spot where the stone fence meets the side of the sparring hall near the top of the fence and let off an arrow every time Fledge bends down and prepares to throw. This approach is a lot less enjoyable though and so should only really be used as a last resort if players are really struggling to meet the target score.
