Tom Hanks Joins Latest Wes Anderson Movie | Game Rant
Wes Anderson's latest movie The French Dispatch has not even hit theaters yet but the acclaimed filmmaker is already prepping his next feature. As with most Anderson projects, this one promises to be a star-studded affair, but Anderson may have just signed the biggest Hollywood star to ever appear in one of his movies.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Oscar-winning legend Tom Hanks will be joining Anderson's latest movie which is untitled at the moment. Plot details are being kept under wraps about the latest Anderson project other than that it will shoot in Spain and also star Anderson regulars Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Murray. There is also no confirmation on what role Hanks will play, though it is reported that it could be a small cameo in the movie.
Anderson's The French Dispatch recently debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and is set to be released in theaters this fall. The movie tells various stories of journalists stationed at an American newspaper outpost in a French city. It stars Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet, and Benicio Del Toro, among many others.
Hanks was last seen starring in the Western News of the World. He has a number of high-profile projects lined up as well, including Baz Luhrmann's Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler, a sci-fi drama called Finch, and the latest live-action Disney remake, Pinocchio where he will play Geppetto.
Immediately upon hearing the casting news, it sounds perfect and surprisingly obvious. Hanks feels like he would be a perfect fit into the unique and distinct world of Wes Anderson. Though some criticize his movies for feeling so similar, Anderson's filmmaking style has been captivating for many fans. It will be exciting to see Hanks play in this kind of world and with Anderson's dry sense of humor, but it feels like a match that makes sense.
It is a bit of a letdown to learn the role is likely a cameo. It would have been nice to see Hanks lead an Anderson ensemble the way Gene Hackman did in The Royal Tenenbaums. Of course, it seems like any actor who works with Anderson has a very good chance of showing up in some of his future projects. Hanks has a similar leading man quality that made Bill Murray an icon so he could join Murray as one of Anderson's go-to performers.
