Destiny 2 Reveals Huge Void Subclass Changes for Witch Queen
Recently, Bungie announced the reveal of its upcoming expansion Destiny 2: The Witch Queen releasing in February 22, 2022. The expansion was revealed with a cinematic reveal trailer for Witch Queen as well as a gameplay trailer to show what it has in store.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is something Bungie has been building up to for years, especially in the game's universe with the full reveal of the Hive goddess Savathun, the titular Witch Queen. Not only did Bungie release a couple of trailers for the next big expansion, but it also provided details on the game's new enemies and main villainess. Bungie also shared more details in a recent post about the new changes heading for the game.
Bungie plans to provide Light classes the "Stasis treatment" going forward season by season. This will add more customization opportunities starting with Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. For the Void subclass, there will be a feature in the game called the Void 3.0 update. According to the post, Bungie plans to add more abilities and mechanics while removing some older ones where it makes sense to allow for new ability combinations.
According to the post, players will be able to choose from a selection of supers, grenades, melees, as well as Aspects and Fragments to make their own unique player builds. Which they can tailor to their specific playstyles. There will be a defined set of keywords used by the various perks and abilities in Void subclasses, similar to the Stasis subclasses that use Slow, Freeze, and Shatter. The first set is negative status effects for enemies, including Suppression, Weaken, and Volatile. The second set is positive status effects for players and their allies, such as Void Overshield, Invisibility, and Devour.
The post also provided a preview for some of the new and updated abilities that will be accessible to players when Void 3.0 is released. Nightstalker Hunter comes with the Shadowshot Moebius Quiver super and the Stylish Executioner Aspect that grants players Invisibility and Truesight when performed on a Weakened, Suppressed, or Volatile enemy. Sentinel Titan has Overwatch Aspect that lets players protect themselves and their allies with a Void-empowered Barricade that creates a Void Overshield. There's also Shield Toss where players throw a shield that can ricochet off enemies and surfaces that grants some Void Overshield for every enemy hit.
Voidwalker Warlock has Pocket Singularity which launches an unstable ball of Void energy that detonates near enemies and pushes them out of cover. It also has Child of the Old Gods Aspect where players summon a sentient black hole that waits around until an enemy approaches, siphoning their energy to the player. Three goals for these changes is to retain the power fantasies of using Void, create new playstyle possibilities, and establish a framework for "systemic integration of the damage type into the rest of the game."
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
