Final Fantasy 7 Fan Shows Off Female Sephiroth Cosplay
For fans of the Final Fantasy series, many of its most iconic characters herald from Final Fantasy 7. Cosplayers tend to tackle the main protagonists, with an abundance of cosplays of the two main female protagonists, Tifa and Aerith, making the rounds online. One fan has decided to change things up, however, eschewing the usual cosplays for a feminine spin on Final Fantasy 7's antagonist, Sephiroth.
Square Enix's turn-based RPG has enjoyed a revitalization in recent years thanks to the release of part one of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, a complete remaster of the original game, complete with the integration of a new combat system, modern graphics, and some alternate narrative elements. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade released in June of this year, and offered a graphical upgrade and extra content for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, with part two currently under development.
While Tifa and Aerith are the oft-favored characters for cosplayers, reddit user LidiaGumi has decided to take a different route, displaying a fantastic rendition of a female Sephiroth. Based on his design from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the cosplay features his heavily shoulder-padded trench coat and long silver hair, however, it does divert from there. LidiaGumi takes some liberties with the original design to make it her own, sporting short shorts and a tank top, dressing the antagonist down to a more casual super villain, as well as adding some beading to the design for a pop of color.
LidiaGumi is no stranger to Final Fantasy cosplay, having only recently created a fantastic interpretation of Ultimecia from Final Fantasy 8. In both cases, LidiGumi manages to make the characters her own, putting a creative spin on the cosplays that differentiates them from others found online. Certain details, like Sephiroth's pauldrons and belt are close to the original design, allowing the creative twists on the concept to really stand out. On top of that, the reflection showing off the back of the cosplay gives an indication of what a more traditional Sephiroth may look like, with LidiaGumi's pose characterizing the villain perfectly.
It's always great to see what gamers will come up with when their creative juices get flowing, and seeing a unique interpretation of such an iconic character is certainly refreshing. With Sephiroth's major role in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, it's likely there will be an explosion of fan content surrounding the character when the game comes out, and if LidiGumi's cosplay is anything to go by, it will be something to look forward to.
