The Witcher Fan Shows Off Incredible Queen Calanthe Cosplay
The Witcher fan showed off impressive cosplay by imitating Queen Calanthe with a Cintra's heraldic color pallette. This photo was framed in a tall skinny portrait to make it look like a painting.
The Witcher is very popular amongst both fans of the books as well as the video game. The Netflix series has brought in its own fair share of fans as well by popularizing the series into the mainstream, and it introduced a prominent character to the center stage, Queen Calanthe. The character is often dubbed the "lioness of Cintra" and the show demonstrated how she earned that name.
The user who posted the cosplay goes by the name of felora, and they have a lot more Witcher-inspired and medieval era cosplays on the page for those who are looking to be inspired on a look. Felora is a Russian costume designer and cosplayer, so be sure to check them out if it's something that you want to learn or get into. For those who don't know, Queen Calanthe was brutal, vicious, and a stern leader who was no stranger to fighting on the front lines with her soldiers. She did what was necessary for her own people and her kingdom, but she was also no stranger to being critiqued and judged for her brutal ways.
She has several fight scenes in The Witcher series, including one where she opposes the protagonist Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill). She was also raising one of the main protagonists, Ciri, before the fall of the kingdom in a climactic scene. The Netflix show did a good job digging into the lore of the people in the world of The Witcher. Many have high expectations for season 2 because season 1 delivered a worthwhile origin story for Yennifer and Ciri.
The one critique that critics had (which seemed to differ from fans) was the way in which the story was told. For those who don't know, the story jumped from past to future several times by orienting around its three protagonists Yennifer, Ciri, and Geralt. If one were to follow along, it was an original, creative, and compelling way to tell a story in order to intersect the three stories.
However, for those who weren't, it was an unnecessary hurdle. Hopefully, they bring that story structure back for season 2, but if not, let's hope The Witcher continues to be the standard for video game adaptations for another year.
The Witcher will debut season 2 on Netflix on December 17, 2021.
