Pokemon GO: How To Get Runerigus
Since Generation VII, Pokemon has included regional variants of certain species of Pokemon, which have made their way into Pokemon GO. As of Generation VIII, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have continued this trend with Galarian forms. One such variant that trainers can obtain in Pokemon GO is Galarian Yamask.
Unlike its Unova-counterpart, Galarian Yamask does not evolve into Cofagrigus. It will instead evolve into the Ghost/Ground-type, Runerigus.
Capturing Galarian Yamask
In Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, players could capture Galarian Yamask in certain areas of the Wild Area or on Route 6. Runerigus could not be caught, requiring players to evolve Yamask. Strange ways to evolve Pokemon is nothing new, and Galarian Yamask is no exception.
To get Runerigus, players had to bring Galarian Yamask to the stone bridge in the Dusty Bowl. Then, they would need it to take at least 49 damage in battle without fainting. From there, Yamask would evolve into Runerigus.
In Pokemon GO, Galarian Yamask was a reward for completing the research tasks in A Spooky Message Unmasked released on October 24, 2020. Unfortunately, this is currently the only way to obtain Galarian Yamask since it cannot be hatched from eggs or found in the wild. Players need to complete three out of the four research tasks to have an encounter with Galarian Yamask:
Step 1:
- Catch 30 *Ghost-type Pokemon (Duskull encounter)
- Transfer 4 Pokemon (340 Stardust)
- Catch 34 Pokemon (340 XP)
- Rewards: Yamask (Unova) encounter, 3 Pinap Berries, 4 Razz Berries
Step 2:
- Catch 10 Dark-type Pokemon (Event Sableye encounter)
- 8 Nice Throws (10 Poke Balls)
- Catch 108 Pokemon) (1080 XP)
- Rewards: Spiritomb encounter, 10 Potions, 8 Great Balls
Step 3:
- Catch 40 Ghost-type Pokemon (Litwick Encounter)
- 9 Great Throws (490 Stardust)
- Catch 49 Pokemon (490 XP)
- Rewards: Galarian Yamask encounter, 44 Silver Pinap Berries, and 9 Golden Razz Berries
Step 4:
- Claim Rewards for Steps 1-3.
- The player will be rewarded with 13 Yamask Candy, and 4900 Stardust as well as a total of 9380 XP from claiming each reward.
*The best time to catch Ghost and Dark-type Pokemon for these quests is during October.
Getting Runerigus
Likewise, Runerigus is currently unavailable in the wild as well. Once the player has obtained Galarian Yamask, they can start working towards evolving it. They need to set Yamask as their Buddy and partake in 10 raids. Getting all raids can take well over five days for free-to-play players since getting the required amount will require Raid Passes.
Players will also need 50 Yamask Candy to complete the evolution. When the requirements are met, they will be able to evolve their Galarian Yamask into Runerigus.
Pokemon GO is available now on mobile devices.
