Red Dead Redemption 2: Where to Find Goats

It's been almost 3 years now since the original release of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar's Wild West action-adventure. The game achieved critical acclaim at launch and has maintained a strong fanbase with the help of its multiplayer counterpart, Red Dead Online. In Red Dead Redemption 2, players live the true outlaw fantasy, robbing banks, riding with a posse, and hunting in the wilderness.

Players will spend a lot of time in Red Dead Redemption 2 tracking down various animals for their pelts and meat. One of the most potentially problematic are goats, which are found on farms and ranches much more often than they are wild. This means players have to be extra careful when trying to hunt them, to avoid picking up a bounty for theft.

Where to Find Goats in Red Dead Redemption 2

Goats are classed as a large-size animal in Red Dead Redemption 2 and are herbivores. While there are some wild, or at least semi-wild goats to be found on the RDR2 map, most are owned by farms and ranches. Of these, it's the more remote farms that are easiest for goat hunting.

One of the best places to find goats in Red Dead Redemption 2 is at the Larned Sod homestead, in the northeast of The Heartlands. The homestead is remote, and the goats often wander far away over the nearby grasslands. Another good place is the Downes Ranch, just to the southwest of Valentine. For the goat locations in RDR2, check the map above.

How to Get a Perfect Goat Pelt in Red Dead Redemption 2

A few of the crafting recipes in Red Dead Redemption 2 will require players to get a Perfect Goat Pelt. These include the Legendary Wolf Batwing Chaps and the Legendary Elk Moccasins. In order to get a Perfect Pelt, players not only need to find a Pristine goat but also kill it in the correct way. Finding a Pristine goat is the easiest part, as all players need to do is check the status of each goat that they're hunting through binoculars.

Once a Pristine goat has been identified, it's important to kill it with a weapon that won't damage the Pelt. Luckily, as goats are classed as large-size, this includes all rifles as well the bow and knife. All players need to do is avoid explosive ammunition, and they'll be able to skin a Perfect Pelt in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
