Destiny 3 Update Given by Bungie, But Fans Might Not Like it

Destiny series developer Bungie provides an update on Destiny 3, but fans probably won't like what it has to say. Fans have been expecting some sort of official Destiny 3 update for a while as the game's story and gameplay details leaked online back in 2018.

Speaking to PCGamesN, Bungie communication director David "DeeJ" Dague gave a disappointing answer when asked about when the developer will reveal Destiny 3. DeeJ said that he doesn't "have any good announcements to make about the next bold moves we’ll make in the franchise" as Bungie is very much committed to releasing new updates for Destiny 2. It's also unclear how long Bungie will keep supporting Destiny 2 before the development team all moves over to Destiny 3 as DeeJ said that the team wants to "make the seasons that will unfold over the course of the next year interesting and sustain a perennial story arc that will keep players engaged."

DeeJ doesn't provide a real answer about when fans can expect a Destiny 3 announcement, but it likely won't happen soon. When Bungie is ready to reveal Destiny 3 it will "have a lot of cool stuff to say on that later, but I’m afraid that moment will have to wait a little bit longer.”

There are so many theories about Bungie's Destiny 3 announcement plans and these are unlikely to go away because of DeeJ's new answers. One popular suggestion is that Bungie will announce Destiny 3 for PS5 and Xbox Series X. The first Destiny was a cross-generation release and it would be poetic if the last game in the trilogy was also available on two console generations. It could make things difficult for Bungie as the PS5 launch title Godfall is being tipped as the next Destiny, but the developer may be working on something great to get millions of players buying Destiny 3.

Some Destiny fans may be glad to hear that Bungie is taking its time developing Destiny 3 and that it won't be rushed. After splitting from publisher Activision in early 2019, Bungie can now do what it wants with the Destiny series. That may mean that Destiny 3 adds a new enemy race for players to fight against and several new character subclasses to choose from, or it could just mean more DLC and fewer microtransactions. Fans aren't going to get a confirmation for a while but this will hopefully give Bungie time to make what it wants.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
