Destiny 2 Fan Creates Awesome Exotic Weapon Concepts and Perks
In what has to be one of the most impressive Destiny 2 community efforts in a long time, an artist has put together concepts for a staggering 44 potential weapons. The mix of Legendary and Exotic weapons provides a striking diversity to the artist's Destiny 2 weapon creations. They even go so far as creating unique images and writing original names and flavor text for every weapon, on top of each gun's original perk. The effort that had to into the project had to be immense.
The creator's Reddit username is NikkoJT and they described how much effort went into their work in a reply to another comment. "I usually put out one every couple of days," they say, noting that just the artwork for each weapon would take "a few hours each." While NikkoJT says their efforts are purely a creative endeavor, they also drop a mention for Bungie. They say, "If you're reading this and liking it, let's talk. I like money. You like guns. It's simple math, Guardian."
Bungie could definitely utilize some of NikkoJT's ideas for perks, as well as some of their weapon designs. Some of their best ideas include an Exotic Sword named Seven Samurai that regenerates knives for the player to throw, a Legendary bow named Spectrum Lance whose fully-charged arrows create false radar signals, and a Scout Rifle named Dream of a Different Past that can be switched into a Sniper Rifle after stacking precision hits.
NikkoJT does acknowledge that most, if not all, of their weapon designs may not fit into Bungie's plans for Destiny 2. NikkoJT's priority was doing something creative and interesting, while Bungie has to prioritize balance and gameplay. Nevertheless, Bungie's design team should be able to evaluate NikkoJT's weapons for interesting ideas and then adapt them for Destiny 2, or even better hire NikkoJT and train them to adapt their ideas for Destiny 2.
No Bungie employees have posted in NikkoJT's thread, but that's not entirely surprising. There are likely legal concerns at hand. If Bungie was working on a weapon similar to what NikkoJT had published, it would open up Bungie to accusations of theft. If Bungie does like NikkoJT's work, they'll contact them through other means and negotiate something first. There's no guarantee that Bungie will do so, but it's not uncommon for game developers to work with their communities on creative collaborations from time to time.
Destiny 2 is available now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
