Oculus Go Gets Big, Permanent Price Cut | Game Rant
Facebook owned virtual reality headset company, Oculus, has brought down the price of one of its less expensive headsets, the Oculus Go, by an approximate $50. The best part of the whole deal is that the price drop isn't a temporary sale, but a complete, permanent decrease in the cost of the system across both of its versions.
The headset comes in two versions, including a 32GB model and a 64GB model. The 32GB model went from $199 to $149, around a 25% decrease in price, while the 64GB model saw a drop from $249 to $199, cutting the price by roughly 20%.

It's important to state that the Oculus Go, unlike some of Oculus's other VR headsets, is not primarily meant for use in gaming. The majority of games that are available on Oculus systems, especially some of the more computationally intensive games, do not run on the Oculus Go. Rather, the Go is a less expensive option in the pricey VR headset market, which focuses on the ability to play smaller games and to view videos in virtual reality. For anyone looking for an Oculus system meant to be used for more serious gaming, an Oculus Rift, or the more portable Oculus Quest, are likely better choices.
For many, one of the largest hurdles for stepping into the world of virtual reality is the immense price tag on VR hardware. Many systems on the market currently stretch far into the triple digits, costing about the same as or much more than a standard video game console. With that in mind, the Oculus Go provides a comparatively inexpensive point of entry into virtual reality, and the recent drop in price should only further its accessibility.
Hopefully, as virtual reality technology advances and becomes more refined, more systems will continue this downward trend in price, following the likes of the Oculus Go. With VR's high barriers to entry at the moment, price reductions like this might just be one of the best things the market can experience.
Whether this will ultimately make a significant difference in the number of purchases of the Oculus Go remains to be seen.
