Deathloop: Updaam Guide
Without trying to sound overly dramatic, it's inarguable that Updaam is the most important location in Deathloop. Of the seven visionaries Colt needs to kill, three of them wind up here and the final piece of the puzzle, the machine that breaks the loop, is also here.
Victory is close in Updaam but it is also quite narrow. All it takes is one mistake, one missing piece of information, one slip-up, and Updaam won't get Colt any closer to beating Deathloop than any other location. These are the major pieces of information about Updaam that any successful run should be aware of.
Any Time Of Day
The Delivery Booth for Updaam is in the courtyard directly across from the library. Colt will be able to read the word library" from the Delivery Booth, so it's not too far. Delivery Booths are great for stashing weapons that can terminate enemy Julianna players. Between the library and the Delivery Booth, Colt should feel plenty resupplied.
Depending on which visionary lead Colt is trying to knock out, he may want the fireworks display to explode or he may want to make them safe and non-functional. Frank confesses in an audio log that he usually has Colt take care of this kind of business.
Players will find the machine in charge of the show in Otto's Workshop and they can follow the glowing wires to render the launcher useless (but safe!).
Players will find Dorsey Manor closed for most of the day, but from the front gate, they can spot the window entrance to Colt's apartment. The intro takes players here a couple of times to get the contents of the safe, but it's good to consistently revisit this spot for the elite trinket inside.
Morning
Two eternalists are doing their best to break through the wall and get to an elite trinket. They'll succeed eventually, but not before noon so the morning is an opportunity when Colt can catch them.
Go around to the bridge to Condition Attachment (closed at this time) and find a secret hole in the wall to beat them to the prize.
The Library is a prominent structure in the center of Updaam and it is one of the best ways for new players to get access to some rare and elite guns and trinkets in addition to all the ammunition and health Colt could ever need. At first, there are only about three guards, but then things get wild.
After a few minutes, the library automatically opens up for all of the eternalists to make a mad grab on weapons and ammunition (which is why it can't be looted later in the day). The countdown for this is on a television displayed at the entrance of the library.
There is an open window on the left side, if Colt jumps through, he can dispatch the three guards and then rig all of the turrets to be on his side. When the doors open, the eternalists looking for loot will be in for a nasty surprise.
Noon
The road to Condition Detachment is open now. There are dozens of guards here, so be careful. More on this attraction in a moment.
The library has been picked clean of weapons by this time, but there is a safe in the middle of the room the eternalists left behind. Players who are on the "What Wenjies Want" visionary lead will eventually need to take the talking statue from the safe and give it to 2-Bit.
2-Bit is in a room of the Condition Detachment sci-fi experience. Give him the statue and he'll take care of the rest. Incredibly, 2-Bit is immune to the effects of the loop, so once Colt gives him the statue once, Wenjie will always be available to take down at this location in the evening.
The first few times through the game, players will have to kill Charlie here and now. There is a better way to kill Charlie later on during the afternoon in Fristad Rock, but, for now, he can be found at the top of the attraction, locked in a small shack guarded by turrets.
Afternoon
To get the legendary Sepulchra Breteira sniper rifle, players will have to fall for an obvious trap set up by Julianna just in front of Dorsey Manor. The area is teeming with enemies waiting to execute Colt and the gigantic "gift" box is nothing more than a trap.
By killing the opponents who set the trap, Colt will eventually loot the sniper rifle.
For those who would like to avoid springing the trap, the Bakery is open and the snipers looking for Colt are on the second story.
There is an opportunity between areas and times to get the Cat Fall trinket. The first stage is in Updaam. The cannon is finally set up and an eternalist is, for whatever reason, excited to die and start a new cycle. He'll need Colt's help, though. Load up a fully charged battery into the cannon, hit the red button, and then find the corpse in Karl's Bay.
There is a rather complicated little game from the mind of Charlie Montague that is only available at this time in Updaam. Find the Moxie store and beat six games with pressure plates and laser grids to acquire an elite weapon.
There is an Air Supply machine under the steps to the library that requires a crank. Sadly, there is not a single crank in all of Updaam. While might be one of those fixes that Deathloop needs to iron out, but it's still possible to get around this by delivering a crank from another area to the Delivery Booth at this location.
Evening
At long last, Aleksis' party is finally available! This is the best and only place to kill Aleksis, though there are at least three methods of taking him out easily.
After progressing far enough into the story, both Egor and Wenjie will be at this party as well on the left rooftop. Players who went that extra step will also get to hear Frank's death over the broadcast announcements at this time.
The RAK is located past the giant gate, down some stairs by the cliff. For those still in the middle of the game, it might not sound familiar and that's alright because the RAK is actually the very last thing Colt will have to visit after killing all seven visionaries in a single swoop.
Deathloop was released on September 14, 2021, and is available on PC and PlayStation 5.
