Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reveals New Ground War Map
It's almost time for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's season 1 content to launch, alongside the game's first Battle Pass and a new Ground War map. In anticipation of the release, Infinity Ward allowed several Call of Duty YouTubers last week to explore the map early, and now they've uploaded gameplay footage unveiling the map to the rest of the world.
The new map, Port, has already been teased by Infinity Ward as part of the Season 1 Roadmap image, and it's only one of many maps being released as part of season 1 on December 3. Just the other day, a leak unveiled the entire Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 100-tier season 1 Battle Pass to fans as well, so most are pretty well-versed on what to expect.
Port is, unsurprisingly, massive; the map's full name is "Port of Verdansk," and its C Flag area alone is Vacant from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which was originally cut out of the latest Modern Warfare to the disappointment of many fans. Some will remember Vacant as the smaller map set in a deserted and abandoned office building in Pripyat, Ukraine, though this time it's just a piece of a larger composition. The multiple YouTube videos about the new Ground War map all offer a look at the map in action, where players will battle among shipping crates, cranes, and the streets between them.
Fans should also be excited to know that Port of Verdansk isn't the only Ground War map that Infinity Ward has discussed in the days leading up to season 1's commencement. The company has previously revealed plans for the Aniyah Palace map (the game's biggest standard multiplayer map) and the classic Shipment map from Call of Duty 4 to both be introduced into the game sometime soon. Port is the first and only new map for season 1 of Modern Warfare to be revealed, and hopefully--given that it apparently combines several different areas--it'll have the variety to keep players coming back to it for quite a while.
Though season 1 is right around the corner, there are still a couple of days for Modern Warfare players to get in on the double XP event that the game is hosting, which will last until December 3 rolls around. Content for season 1 will also be issued periodically rather than all at once, so there's a lot of Modern Warfare to look out for in the coming weeks.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
