10 Hardest Bosses In Super Mario Galaxy 2 | Game Rant
Super Mario Galaxy 2 did a lot of things better than the first game, with one of them being boss battles. There were not only more of them, but they also utilized Mario’s power-ups a lot more than the original. They also were a lot harder, making survival more difficult, especially with more daredevil comet runs of bosses that only allow Mario to get hit once.
Plus, the bosses, in general, were less recycled, and a lot more time-consuming, especially with perfecting what you had to do to beat them, without taking too much damage. These are the hardest bosses in Super Mario Galaxy 2!
10 Bowser
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Bowser battles are slightly more difficult than the first game. Now, instead of getting Bowser to slam on sensitive areas of planets to open an opportunity to him with lava on his tail, Bowser will shout and summon meteors that slam into the planet, creating shockwaves.
Bowser will then punch the planet and awaken the meteors, to where Mario will have to aim his Ground-Pound to shoot them back at him. Coupled with fire that he will usually use after being hit, this is one of the more technical fights in the game.
9 Fiery Dino Piranha
In Boss Blitz Galaxy, Fiery Dino Piranha is a much harder version of Dino Piranha and Peewee Piranha, similar to his fight in Super Mario Galaxy. As he runs around the planet you fight him on, Fiery Dino Piranha's tail lights up with flames, stopping you from just hammering out the three hits in a matter of seconds.
After being hit, he will leave a trail of fire behind him, forcing Mario to lure the creature around to get a better path to attack the tail. After the third hit, Fiery Dino Piranha begins shooting fireballs that travel around the stage and running much faster than he initially did. This is a difficult boss if you don’t know what you’re doing.
8 Giga Lakitu
Yoshi is quick to get introduced into the game and gets immediately thrown into a boss battle with the King of Lakitus, Giga Lakitu. What makes this fight difficult is that electric attacks will cause Yoshi to disappear when hit, forcing Mario to drop down to crack another egg to get him.
Also, the player has to aim their shots on a constantly moving boss in order to shoot a Spiny back at Giga Lakitu. With how many he throws out onto the stage, maneuvering around while trying not to take damage and dodge Spinys can be slightly difficult.
7 Glamdozer
Mario fights Glamedozer in Flipsville Galaxy and is simultaneously one of the easier, yet, more difficult bosses. In a non-casual run, she can constantly be hit without her moving much from her original position by heading to the center gate and flipping her over.
Glamdozer will constantly move over it, allowing you to easily beat her. However, when doing the battle normally, she can not only move very quickly but also shoot lava into gates, not allowing Mario to flip them while damaging him in the process. This can be surprising, especially if you are hit by lava and get forced to run off the edge.
6 Sorbetti
Sorbetti, found on Freezy Flake Galaxy, is difficult only because of the size of the planet you fight him on. Littered with mounts of snow that Mario must spin, there are many distractions players will face as Sorbetti rolls after them.
Plus, you have to spin a specific part of his face, not just his body in general, requiring players to line up their path in order to achieve the hit they desire or else get laughed at when Sorbetti crashes into them and does damage. Players need a bit of preciseness and patience to get the hang of this boss.
5 Prince Pikante
Shiverburn Galaxy is one of the most nostalgic stages from the first game, mimicking Freezeflame Galaxy in its ice and fire complement. However, Prince Pikante mixes a fast-paced version of King Kaliente’s fight with everyone’s favorite mechanic: Ice! It’s pretty easy to get ahead of yourself with your graceful jumps and slip off the side or get too close to an edge and get hit, sending Mario flying as a result
Meteors that land on the ground will also create pools of lava that will need to be dodged. Mario can even be damaged by the coconuts he has to hit back at him if he’s not careful!
4 Squizzard
This boss fight is difficult during the regular mission and especially the Daredevil Run, forcing Mario to fight with 1 HP. Boasting a catchy, desert theme and requiring the use of a Fire Flower, Squizzard takes no prisoners with quicksand constantly slowing down and pulling the player towards him.
Mario needs to shoot fireballs in his mouth when he opens it while avoiding sand balls or spike cannons. On his final hit, Squizzard will chuck two bombs in the air that cannot be dodged by standing still and letting them blow up on the sides of Mario, resulting in a death in the Daredevil Run fight.
3 Mega-Hammer
The second Yoshi battle in the game, this fight against Bowser Jr. involves aiming Bullet Bills at sensitive areas of the robot, dodging shockwaves, and circling around to the other side of the robot and attacking the back.
What makes it difficult is that hammers will instantly kill Mario if he is smashed. Plus, Bullet Bills will tend to follow you around the stage as you run away with Yoshi. Coupled with the sinking platforms that can also be destroyed by the Mega-Hammer, you’ll have to watch your step constantly.
2 Boomsday Machine
Another one of Bowser Jr.’s mechanical creations, the Boomsday Machine can only be contested as Cloud Mario. This falls into the same category as Squizzard, where the Daredevil Run makes this boss a lot harder, especially since you have to make it through the entire galaxy to get there, snagging a checkpoint at the end.
The machine constantly shoots electric blasts that home in on Mario as he spawns clouds to climb. After getting hit twice, Bowser Jr. raises the machine and moves around the area, spinning bars of fire around that would also pose a threat to Mario’s climb.
1 Fiery Gobblegut
This flaming version of Gobblegut is much harder than Bowser Jr.’s Gobblegut on his galaxy. The former's body is constantly emitting flames, and wherever he digs, he creates a pool of lava that will hurt Mario if he gets too close.
Basically, touching anything other than a belly bulge will damage Mario, causing him to run around with his rump on fire. Fiery Gobblegut is similar to Fiery Dino Piranha, where after a while, the boss will start shooting fireballs out of his mouth, also creating mini pools of lava that will disappear after a while.
