Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Shipment Spawn Fix Actually Made Things Worse
On January 28th, Infinity Ward released the newest update to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Since then, players have been adjusting to the last set of changes in Season 1 which include weapon tuning and the addition or removal of maps and game modes. But one fix deployed with the update seems to have done nothing to help its intended goal.
Since launch, the Shipment map has been criticized for its spawn points. Getting killed in the wrong place at the wrong time would put players into one of several points where campers would be waiting to mow down the respawning conga line. The Shipment fix that came with the latest update was meant to change the algorithm and prevent this type of spawn camping. As some players can attest, however, the change seems to have made things even worse.
Various users including FSUNole727 voiced some complaints on the Modern Warfare subreddit after their experiences with the "new" spawn points. In particular, it is a major issue if capturing a flag will cause the enemy team to spawn inside the captured area, leading players to be immediately shot in the back upon respawning. Furthermore, other videos from the community show campers have already taken advantage of the spawn changes as one team was ping-ponged back and forth between different points to be instantly downed.
It seems that the core of Shipment's spawn problems lie solely with the map. Dedicated campers will always be able to set up a tent and changing respawn points simply mean they will set up new stomping grounds. Fixing these issues could require a more fundamental approach such as altering terrain and placements on the map. With the end of Season 1 on February 11th, however, players may have to wait until the start of Season 2 for another update and attempt.
More than ever, Infinity Ward has shown that the devs are willing to listen to constructive player feedback to implement ideas. With the latest update, the team is surely monitoring the situation and devising other plans to make spawns more balanced. Considering the popularity of Shipment 24/7 and different game modes that can be played on the shipping container-turned map, it's back to the drawing board again for fixes.
In the meantime, players who are staying away from Shipment can still work on other goals towards Season 1's end date. For fans that need a break, however, there are already leaks for a Battle Royale mode and other surprises coming in Season 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
