Destiny 2 Disables Another Exotic Following OP Glitch | Game Rant
Bungie's had to pull another one of Destiny 2's Exotic items offline due to a newly discovered bug, the developer announced Friday afternoon. Bugged Exotics have become an unfortunate trend lately in Destiny 2. For the most part, at least, the Exotic items have been bugged to be more powerful than intended. Players can at least have fun while the bug lasts. This latest bugged item is another such case, with the Winter's Guile gloves proving a bit too strong to leave be.
The Winter's Guile Exotic gauntlets are a Warlock-exclusive item. The Exotic's unique perk is called the Warlord's Sigil and it increases a player's melee damage with consequent melee kills. It isn't a widely well-regarded Exotic, but some players have clearly been using it. The bug in question, according to Bungie, is preventing the Warlord's Sigil perk from resetting after a designated period of time. In other words, the perk would stack melee damage constantly without resetting.
For the time being, Bungie has disabled the Winter's Guile Exotic gauntlets until it's able to find the root cause of the bug and put together a hotfix. Both the 1.0 and 2.0 versions of the Winter's Guile gauntlets are disabled, which begs the question as to how long this bug has been in-game without anyone realizing it. Players believe that the bug doesn't trigger automatically, but that it triggers if Winter's Guile is swapped for a different piece of armor when its melee damage stacks are maxed.
The bug has been speculated about by the community over the past week, due to a similar bug with the Titan exotic named Wormgod Caress. Titans were able to combine the stacking melee damage of the Wormgod Caress with other abilities to create flaming thrown hammers dealing incredible amounts of damage. The Wormgod Caress Exotic gauntlets were disabled by Bungie three days ago in a similar fashion to the Winter's Guile item.
While some fans may ask if there's an issue with Bungie's testing, since it seems like a different Exotic item is bugged every other week, there's a more likely cause. That being that Destiny 2's hardcore playerbase is exceptionally talented at finding ways to game the system. At some point, Bungie's testing team was outmatched by this dedicated following of players who spend day after day trying to break the game so they can be more powerful. It's kind of a losing battle, though Bungie fights it admirably.
Expect an update on the Winter's Guile Exotic, as well as the Wormgod Caress, once Bungie has a hotfix for the bug wrapped up.
Destiny 2 is available now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
