Gamers Find Scary Connection Between Resident Evil and Coronavirus Outbreak

Everyone is paying attention to the deadly coronavirus outbreak that started in China and has since been reported elsewhere around the world. All the attention the coronavirus is getting from the media has directly translated to higher sales for the Plague Inc. video game, but that's not the only way that the virus is linked to video games.

It's been noted online that there are some weird connections between the coronavirus and Capcom's Resident Evil franchise. Besides the obvious link of Resident Evil's plot generally revolving around viral outbreaks, it turns out that there is a biological research lab in Wuhan, China with a logo that looks exactly like a color-swapped Umbrella Corporation logo. For those who haven't been following the news, Wuhan is one of the cities that has been quarantined by the Chinese government in an effort to keep the coronavirus situation from becoming a full-blown epidemic.

And for those who may not be completely familiar with Resident Evil lore, the Umbrella Corporation fronts itself as a pharmaceutical company, when it reality it is developing bio-weapons to sell to the highest bidder. Its biological experiments accidentally result in viral outbreaks that turn people into zombies and other mutated creatures. It's a strange coincidence that a company with the Umbrella logo is located in Wuhan when one considers what the Umbrella Corporation is associated with in the Resident Evil universe.

Twitter user Undoomed has pointed out another connection between the coronavirus and Resident Evil, though this one is a bit of a stretch. They point out how "corona" is an anagram for "racoon." The connection there is that some of the Resident Evil games take place in Raccoon City, but with "raccoon" spelled wrong in the anagram, it's not nearly as compelling as the logos looking so similar.

It's unclear why RSLW copied the Umbrella Corporation logo, but it does appear to be an almost exact copy. The only difference is that the RSLW logo is green and white instead of red and white. One would think that a biological research company would want to avoid being compared to something like Umbrella from Resident Evil, but perhaps the logos looking almost identical is just a coincidence as well.
