Godfall May Not Be Available on Steam | Game Rant

Fantasy action RPG Godfall may not be available on Steam, suggests a post from the game's official social media account. Godfall is the first game confirmed for PS5, and it will be a launch title for the console, but it will also be released on PC.

The Godfall Twitter account recently responded to a fan's question about the release plans for the game. It told the fan that the title will be available on PS5 and on the Epic Games Store for PC, and while the lack of any mention of Steam is not definitive confirmation that Godfall won't be available on that platform, some have taken this statement to mean that the title will be an Epic Games Store exclusive. This could make sense considering that Godfall's publisher, Gearbox Software, recently released Borderlands 3 as an Epic Games Store exclusive.

Unsurprisingly, some gamers aren't happy that Godfall may not be available on Steam. One fan said that they wouldn't be buying the game on PC or PS5 because the Epic Games Store has "anti-consumer tactics." The Twitter user didn't say what about the Epic Games Store they don't like, but the store has been criticized before for things like not having any game reviews. Several others also said that they wouldn't be buying the game because it would be on the Epic Games Store.

A few other gamers asked if Godfall will be a timed exclusive and for additional information about when it could come to Steam. The Epic Games Store has had several exclusive games, but not all of them have been fully exclusive. Some timed exclusives, such as controversial Epic Games Store exclusive Metro Exodus have been, or will be, released on Steam, and that could be what happens with Godfall, though nothing has been officially confirmed.

Being an Epic Games Store exclusive can make more money for the developers, and that could be a reason for Godfall to release in such a manner. However, it could potentially be very bad for Godfall, a multiplayer game that is like Destiny, as such titles often need larger playerbases to keep them going. If players are threatening not to buy the game because it's on the Epic Games Store, the PC playerbase could be much lower. Gearbox and developer Counterplay Games have likely weighed this up, but some will be holding out hope that the game will also launch on Steam.

Godfall is currently in development for PS5 and PC.
