Theory: Nintendo Direct Will Announce Next Smash DLC Character
Fans of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are looking forward to what's next for the game in 2020. That being said, the release of a new fighter might come sooner than fans might think with a new leak implying that the new character might be revealed no later than next month.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the latest addition to the beloved and widely popular Super Smash Bros. franchise. Despite the game being released in December of 2018, the game continues to make waves within both the gaming community and industry. Since the game's initial release, four additional DLC fighters have been added to the games roster and ever since, fans have speculated as to when the next DLC fighter will be released.
Though many theories have surfaced online as to who the new DLC character could be, no one knows for sure who it is, but maybe they know when the fighter will be released? A Twitter user noticed something interesting on the Nintendo eShop and took a picture of it. The picture depicts the DLC list for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Underneath the Challenger Pack 5 DLC, it shows that the estimated release date is slated for February 29th, 2020. If this is to be believed, then this likely means that the DLC character will be announced sometime in January and will be released at the end of February. There is still no confirmation as to who the fighter could be, though there have been many characters who have been debunked by leakers both reliable and fake.
Nintendo has yet to issue any sort of official statement on the topic, however this does seem to align with what it said when the Fighters Pass was first announced: that all of the fighters would be released by February of 2020. If this news is true, then the fighter will likely be announced within the month of January, which also coincides with the rumors of there being a Nintendo Direct slated for January 16th.
Having said all this, it is important to note that all of this is still speculation. It's possible that Nintendo simply put the estimated release date of February 29th, 2020 as a placeholder until it announces an actual release date. Not to mention Super Smash Bros. rumors come and go like waves. There are so many Smash theories being debunked by leakers all the time that it's hard to tell what's real and what isn't. In any case, if a Nintendo Direct does occur within the month of January, then fans will certainly know sooner rather than later.
