Borderlands 3 Players Putting Together a List of All Cut Content
Since its release, Borderlands 3 has been enthralling players by returning to beloved Pandora characters and continuing their storylines. However, in a culture that binges content as soon as it is released, some fans are not content with the official release alone.
Reddit user DelusionPhantom's thread has dug through the Borderlands 3 game files and uncovered various archived audio and art assets. Since his initial discovery, fans have added their own observations by pointing out various details in the leak and speculating on what the implications of the game files' secrets are.
In the post, DelusionPhantom begins by attaching a Google Drive link with all the leaked assets before listing them. The leak reveals several abandoned custom icons, including a "dabbing emote." Original ability names are also available, from the speed ability being called "Gotta Go Fast" to alternate skills like PHASEDASH and PHASEBLAST for the character Amara. There also appear to be assets for an in-game retro RPG section, with various characters being rendered in level select icons. There's also new character art, and most importantly, audio logs that might be used in upcoming DLC packs centering around a former Vault Hunter-turned-bartender and a smarmy television producer.
DelusionPhantom has a history of leaking details about Borderlands 3. Previously, the Reddit user revealed that Krieg the Psycho was meant to have a role in the game. However, like his previous leak, it's important to note that the leak has not been confirmed or corroborated yet. However, if the leak is true, it would reveal a great deal about what developer Gearbox Software might have in store for players and provide a look at what went into the development of this long awaited sequel. At the very least, it's captured the attention and imagination of several fans who were dissatisfied with the "rushed" nature of the game's ending.
In spite of its mixed reception and several technical issues, these assets reveal some of the high hopes and ambitions Gearbox had for Borderlands 3. Although several ideas ultimately did not make the cut, the humorous file names, attempts at new gameplay and little Easter eggs show the care that went into the final product. Ultimately, players can hope that continuations of the Borderlands story through DLC or full-length sequels will live up to their high expectations.
Borderlands 3 is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
