Uncharted: Tom Holland Talks About Mark Wahlberg's Sully
During an interview, Tom Holland, best known for his portrayal as Spider-Man, discussed when the upcoming Uncharted film will begin filming, what the inspiration for the movie is, and his thoughts on his co-star, Mark Wahlberg.
The interview was held at the World Premiere of Holland’s most recent film, Onward. At the beginning of the interview, he was asked if he had a favorite video game. Holland replied by stating that one of his “favorite video games ever is the fourth Uncharted game.” He continued by saying, “lots of the inspiration from the film has come from that game in particular.” This may be because the film is set to be a prequel to the Uncharted games, and Uncharted 4 has moments where players take control of a younger Nathan Drake.
At the end of the interview, Holland revealed that he will begin shooting the untitled Uncharted film soon. After discussing how he came across the role as Nathan Drake, the actor announced that, “We start shooting in, like, four weeks.” He went on to give his thoughts of Mark Wahlberg as Sully, saying, “Mark Wahlberg is going to be amazing as Sully.”
Since the Uncharted movie was first announced back in 2009, the film has been stuck in development trouble. This is why it may come as a surprise that the film is finally so close to the beginning of filming. While Holland discussed how great Mark Wahlberg is for the role of Sully, he was initially supposed to be cast in a different role. Earlier in production, Wahlberg was set to star as Nathan Drake, now Holland’s role, before leaving the Uncharted project, and then rejoining in the role of Sully. In Wahlberg’s absence, the film was reworked for a younger actor to take on the iconic role, which made the casting of Holland possible.
While there have been many delays on the Uncharted film, and many directors and writers attached, the film is currently set to release on March 5, 2021. For fans eager to see what an Uncharted movie could look like, there is a fan film staring Nathan Fillion as Nathan Drake.
