Characters That Fans Want to See Return in Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
With only rumors and a trailer to go off of, players and fans are left wondering what will happen in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Theories have spiraled among supposed BotW 2 leaks discussing possible gameplay, plot, and villains.
However, with very little concrete evidence to go off of, many players have shared their wishes for what could be awaiting them in Breath of the Wild 2. With the Hyrule appearing to be the same Hyrule in the original Breath of the Wild, there are plenty of faces that players wish to see once more.
It cannot be denied that Prince Sidon is a fan-favorite Zelda character who was first introduced in Breath of the Wild, as even his appearance as a child in the Champions' Ballad DLC warmed the hearts of many players. Sidon's open friendliness and recognition of Link, as well as his relatively good looks for a Zora, made his extremely popular among fans, and considering that Breath of the Wild 2 will use the same map as the original title, it makes sense for Prince Sidon to return as well.
Originally appearing in 2011's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Fi is the spirit that resides in the Goddess Sword and eventually the Master Sword. While she cannot be directly seen or heard, Fi does appear in Breath of the Wild and is mentioned by Zelda herself multiple times. In fact, she is the one that tells Zelda to bring Link to the Shrine of Resurrection before the game's events.
While her power has waned over the years, she can be restored via the Trial of the Sword available in the Master Trials DLC pack. With this in mind, it is very possible for Fi to speak directly to Link once more in Breath of the Wild 2. Back in Skyward Sword, some players found her character to be on the irritating side with how she is the avatar that many of the overdone tutorials are exposited through in-game. However, her goodbyes to Link remain a very memorable and sad moment in the Legend of Zelda series, so there are many fans who would wish to see her once more.
Theorists believe and want the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess villain, Zant, to return in Breath of the Wild 2. Based on playing the music in the Breath of the Wild 2 trailer backwards, some theorists believe it sounds a lot like Zant's own theme. Others have noted that the green light shown in the trailer could possibly be alluding to the Twilight Realm; however, some fans also believe the mummified Ganon shown in the trailer could in actuality be Zant himself due to the posing.
Zant is a Twili sorcerer from the Twilight Realm who removed Midna from her throne and transformed her into an imp-like form, robbing her of her power. He believed in Ganondorf as a god and served as a very dangerous adversary to Link throughout the game. His return in Breath of the Wild 2 would be very interesting story-wise and could bring more Legend of Zelda games from different parts of the timeline together.
Paya is a relatively minor side character in the original Breath of the Wild, but her cute appearance and mannerisms appealed to many a player. She is a member of the Sheikah and the granddaughter of known Legend of Zelda character, Impa. It is unknown if she has any combat abilities, but if she were to return with a more prominent role in Breath of the Wild 2, she could show off some hidden abilities.
With Zelda being freed from holding Ganon back after the events of Breath of the Wild, it would be interesting to see how the two interact, especially seeing as how Paya has an extremely obvious crush on Link. As Zelda's voice actress has given her own interpretation on Zelda and Link's relationship, it would be nice to see it being properly discussed in-game.
With Ganon only appearing as Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild, there are many players that missed the more thoughtful villain instead of a raging beast. The trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 did show an apparent corpse of Ganondorf, so it is highly likely that he will appear once more.
However, some Legend of Zelda fans have made fan-art and comics of a possible different approach to the character. As Zelda, Link, and Ganon have been essentially forced to follow fate for hundreds of years, what if Ganondorf were to defy that fate? With that, fans have created a version of Ganondorf based on the trailer comically called "Rehydrated Ganondorf". This fan-creation has a newly revived corpse of Ganondorf team up with Link and Zelda in the upcoming Breath of the Wild 2 and fight alongside them as a long-dead Gerudo prince.
While this route would be extremely unlikely, a Legend of Zelda game where Ganondorf is an ally would be something very new to the series. As the original Breath of the Wild was full of brand new changes to the series, fans will most likely be surprised with whatever will happen with Ganondorf in Breath of the Wild 2.
While not officially appearing in the original Breath of the Wild, concept art for Link's family including a little sister and possible grandfather can be found in the Japanese version of the Creating a Champion book.
Not much of Link's life is known before he began serving the royal family and finding out more about what Link has forgotten would be an interesting story to tell in Breath of the Wild 2. Even if the family shown in the concept art isn't the same family that Link would have in Breath of the Wild 2, finding Link's original and barren home with memories of the past haunting the silent hero would be a truly tragic moment to witness. After all, Link had to have lost a lot of things important to him while asleep for a hundred years.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is in development.
