Here's Why Watchmen is Trending on Twitter | Game Rant
Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel Watchmen has recently exploded thanks to its HBO series, the same network now working on a spin-off of The Shining. The property is notoriously political, but that fact seemed to slip past a particularly angry person who messaged director James Gunn.
Gunn Tweeted an image of the profanity-laden text he received earlier today, one that bashes his filmography (which includes movies like Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy) for being too political, "feminist," and "racist." They compared his work to DC Comics adaptations like Zack Snyder's Watchmen and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as James McTeigue's V for Vendetta.
All three movies began trending on the social media site in various forms after Gunn posted the message poking fun at the way it ends by saying they were offering "just advice." One of DC Comics' Watchmen movie co-writers, David Hayter, responded saying one of the hardest parts of making it was "stripping out all the politics." While it's likely the extreme message was an attempt to troll the director, it does highlight the fact that Gunn himself is directing a reboot of Suicide Squad for DC Comics. Many fans' best bet is to just enjoy the adaptations or not, that's personal choice, and put why Watchmen is trending out of mind.
