Without a doubt, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been one of the most highly anticipated games of 2020, and it looks like it delivers on all fronts. Many will play through and have many questions, regardless of their experience with the original, and this is perhaps one of the more lighthearted questions: "can I pet that dog?"
Throughout the game, players will encounter a variety of dogs such as the one at Marle's apartment, the stray dogs on the street, and plenty more. There's also the dog-like summon and character in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Carbuncle and Red XIII, but unfortunately, it does not appear that any dog in the game, pseudo or otherwise, can be petted.
This definitive, if somewhat heart-breaking answer comes way of the Twitter account, "Can You Pet The Dog?" For all animal-loving gamers, it's a good source to check and find what games will or won't let players pet the dogs.
Notably, however, there is another type of animal Cloud can interact with. Players are tasked with finding cats in the Lost Friends sidequest, which pay put Cloud on the side of cats in the greater cats vs. dogs debate.
