Minecraft: Java Edition Update Adds New Content | Game Rant

Though Mojang's sandbox building game Minecraft has spent a good many years in the spotlight, it is continuing to see near-constant updates. Throughout the year a lot of attention has been placed on the game's alternate dimension, the Nether, with additions like Netherite Ore, and the latest Snapshot update on Java contributes even more.

Minecraft Snapshot 20W16A, released Wednesday, primarily focuses on Bastions, the homes of a fairly recent new enemy type called Piglins, and design pieces like chain blocks and ruined portals. There is also a new music disc called "Pigstep" composed by Celeste veteran Lena Raine.

Beyond those additions the Snapshot update also changes lava spawn amounts in certain areas of the Nether, enables JMX monitoring, and fixes a number of bugs previously seen in Minecraft like incorrect sounds playing and villagers who "sometimes stop farming."

A spin-off action RPG based on the popular game, Minecraft Dungeons, was recently delayed from late April until May because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. At least fans can try out new content being released in the main game while they wait.

Minecraft is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, along with many older platforms.
