Summer GDC Event Will Be Completely Digital | Game Rant
The annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) for 2020 was officially postponed from its original time slot in March after companies like Amazon and Blizzard dropped out due to coronavirus concerns. A replacement show called GDC Summer was announced to take its place, and today conference staff confirmed that GDC Summer will be an entirely digital event held from August 4 to 6.
According to the announcement, organizers were "inspired to adapt and deliver GDC in a digital format that will be available to everyone with an internet connection" based on companies like PlayStation initiating work from home policies to stem the spread of disease. However they "very much look forward" to meeting in person again soon, and say they "believe in the power of gathering our community to share, inspire, and strengthen our industry."
As part of its efforts to help support developers that have been affected by the ongoing pandemic, GDC put together a relief bundle earlier this month that gamers could purchase at whatever price they wanted to donate.
Earlier this month Microsoft also announced that it would be hosting digital-only conferences and events until at least July 2021 due to the coronavirus.
GDC Summer will be held online between August 4 and 6.
