Tom Hanks Hosts Saturday Night Live from Home | Game Rant
With much of the world under quarantine due to COVID-19, live, weekly sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, or SNL, has come back on air after a one month absence with Saturday Night Live At Home, a prerecorded take on the show, filmed from cast member's homes. And the guest host of this week's show was none other than Tom Hanks.
Interestingly enough, it was never announced that Tom Hanks would be hosting Saturday Night Live At Home. Rather, viewers learned of his role as the guest host just as he came on to deliver the traditional opening monologue.
As noted in the opening monologue, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 while filming in Australia, serving as early public cases of celebrities with the illness. The speech reflected on Hank's personal experience with quarantine and the nature of hosting a live show from home, while taking a few good-natured shots at SNL in typical guest monologue fashion. He then performed a brief Q&A section alone, playing both the "audience members" asking questions, as well as himself answering them.
Hanks ended his speech with a thanks to all essential workers. It's a heartwarming end to an unorthodox Saturday Night Live speech, the likes of which hadn't been seen until now.
