Avid fans reacted with excitement and anticipation when The Wolf Among Us 2 was announced at The Game Awards 2019, putting to rest beliefs that the game would never see the day of light after Telltale Games closure.
Though not quite back from the dead, the current revival of Telltale Games is better understood as a buy-out of the company by newly established gaming company LCG Entertainment. Telltale Games is now trade name that LCG Entertainment will use when certain games are developed under its team, such as The Wolf Among Us 2. LCT Entertainment also bought many moreof Telltale Games' assets.
Remnants of the original Telltale Games and its unique talents may still prove to be largely intact, given that LCG Entertainment has hired many of the original and former staff as freelance employees, with the possibility of becoming full time employees. Furthermore, LCG Entertainment, operating under the name Telltale Games, has also partnered and contracted AdHoc Studio to work on The Wolf Among Us 2 with them. AdHoc Studio comprises many of Telltale Games' former developers, who banded together to establish this studio. The Wolf Among Us 2 was the first game to be revealed by LCG Entertainment, suggesting it very likely has high expectations for the title.
Not much is confirmed yet, though it will be an Epic Game Store exclusive slated for a release after 2020. The latest leak regarding The Wolf Among Us 2, from a Reddit user, has stated the game will release sometime next year in 2021. Though the original version of The Wolf Among Us 2 was in development when Telltale Games closed its doors in 2018, The Wolf Among Us 2's development has been restarted entirely. The Wolf Among Us 2 will also be created utilizing the Unreal Engine 4.
Rumors state that the game is being designed as episodic installments, similarly to the original, and other Telltale games, but its final release may not pan out this way potentially. Whether that means bigger episodes or a complete release remains to be seen, but there appears to be a solid amount of assets thus far. According to the Reddit leaker claiming to know its release timeline, also in The Wolf Among Us 2 is Bigby's place, the Woodlands, an office setting, and various New York streets.
In the new The Wolf Among Us 2 trailer revealed at The Game Awards 2019, Bigby and Snow's returns are revealed. In the trailer, Snow requests Bigby to return to his meaner and more aggressive nature of a time past, suggesting a potential urgency or danger to come of sorts. This is especially noteworthy as she pushed Bigby away from that in the first game, unless there's some sort of red herring taking place.
It is not yet revealed which consoles The Wolf Among Us 2 will release for, but if one had to make a guess, next-gen consoles and PC would be the likely outcome, with current-gen consoles and other mobile devices certainly posing the possibility until we find out more.
