Frosthaven, Follow-Up to Gloomhaven, Sets Kickstarter Record
Kickstarter's most successful board game campaign has come to an end, setting a new record for funding. Frosthaven, the follow-up to the sprawling dungeon crawler Gloomhaven, is the new record-keeper on Kickstarter. Frosthaven's campaign brought in a staggering $12,969,608 through 83,193 individual backers. It's a record that's difficult to imagine being broken anytime soon.
For those unfamiliar with Gloomhaven or Frosthaven, they're both colossal fantasy RPGs in which up to four players cooperatively take on dungeon crawling scenarios. Each scenario provides loot for players to grow their character, or bigger changes to the world that unlock new locations and scenarios, as well as story beats as part of an epic campaign.
Frosthaven, in many ways, retains much of what made Gloomhaven incredibly popular and one of the best-reviewed games ever made. It's described by its creator as the Captain America film to Gloomhaven as Iron Man in the MCU. That is, Frosthaven maintains the core ideas of Gloomhaven but explores it in a new setting and story. That said, Frosthaven is unique to its own in many regards, though Gloomhaven players will appreciate many different references.
The Frosthaven Kickstarter campaign has ended, but unlike many other campaigns that doesn't mean it can't be purchased. A pre-order option for Frosthaven is still available for later buyers. The base box can be pre-ordered for $130 ($30 more than the Kickstarter price) and other add-ons, including solo scenarios, removable stickers, and a voiced narration app, can be still be purchased, too.
Frosthaven is planned to be delivered in March 2021.
