Kristen Wiig Returns to Saturday Night Live As Host | Game Rant

Since the breakout of the coronavirus pandemic, which has shut down large public gatherings alongside schools and businesses, Saturday Night Live has been hosting "at-home" episodes. Each of these episodes have featured an unannounced guest host, starting with Tom Hanks, and yesterday Kristen Wiig returned to the show to open the "season finale" of SNL.

Wiig led the show with a three-minute monologue that began using wacky video effects only to transition into a somewhat somber discussion of trying to celebrate Mother's Day while social distancing — still rife with jokes and ending on a bombastic musical number. The previous show was led by Brad Pitt playing Dr. Anthony Fauci to poke fun at President Donald Trump's crisis response.

The actress was a regular SNL cast member between 2005 and 2012. During that time and since then Wigg has starred in a number of movies like Paul Feig's Bridesmaids (2011) and the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters (2016).

This season finale of Saturday Night Live marks the end of a bizarre, yet effective three-episode attempt to create a massive sketch television show from afar. NBC has also been airing other experimental programming to benefit coronavirus relief such as a reunion of the Parks and Recreation cast.
