PUBG on PC Adds Bots and Fans Aren't Happy | Game Rant

The newest update to the massively popular battle royale game PUBG has fans torn over both its pros and its cons.

PUBGwhich was developed by PUBG Corporation and officially launched in December of 2017 on PC for Steam's early access users, is known for being one of the best selling video games of all time. The game, which stands for PlayerUnknown's BattleGrounds, recently came out with an update that introduces a ranked mode that puts the best players in the world against each other to truly test their skills.

The aspect of the update that has some fans upset is that unranked matches will now be putting computer-controlled characters into the games to also play against real players. A decision that many players say will significantly jeopardize the fun playstyle of the game that they have come to enjoy over the years.

PUBG Corporation's reasoning for doing this is to widen the skill gap among the player base by giving beginner players easier targets to shoot and have them not be seen as an "easy target." However, many people only play this game in duo or solo mode just to hang out with friends and mess around, so adding bots ruins the lighthearted aspects of matches.

The developer is aware of player's grievances and it has given a public statement saying, "we know [this] has been a controversial topic among the Community the last few weeks." PUBG Corporation continues to say that this is just the current wave of bots and that it will continue to make improvements on them to behave more like real players.

Fortnite also recently tried to implement bots into its game, but was met with a similar reaction from its fanbase as well when it came to concerns over a convincing AI program. It is going to be a considerable challenge for PUBG to meet these players' demands when it comes to coding bots to behave like humans, especially when most of the fans would prefer to get rid of the bots entirely. Only time will tell if this decision will pay off, and humans and robots can learn to have fun with each other.

PUBG is available now for Windows, Android, iOs, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Google Stadia.
