The CW Pushes Back Its Fall Premieres to 2021 | Game Rant
The entire film industry has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, with a myriad of films and television shows being delayed as a result. Now it appears that this extends to the entirety of the CW television network, which has announced a major delay for its fall 2020 season of premieres.
So far, television shows haven't had it quite as rough as films, as the shuttering of movie theaters has put all but a few direct to streaming movies on hold. However, a ripple is bound to be felt for some time due to the coronavirus, as it's made filming shows impossible during the infection threat.
Now, the CW has revealed that the programming which should have premiered in the fall of 2020 will instead be moved to January of 2021. Delayed programs include The Flash, Superman & Lois, Riverdale, Walker, and Charmed. According to CW head Mark Pedowitz, the goal is to start filming these shows around September 2020. Of course, if the pandemic continues until then or has a second wave, this could interrupt plans further and push back the season to an unknown date.
The one show that is currently an exception is Supernatural, which will see its series finale in just over half a dozen episodes. However, even Supernatural's team still needs to film its last two episodes, and if those aren't ready in time, the CW may choose to delay airing any of the episodes until the season's completion.
In the meantime, CW says it will air "fresh original and acquired scripted series and alternative programming" during the fall of 2020. This includes tv shows like DC's Swamp Thing and Whose Line Is It Anyway.
