Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Coming to PC and Consoles in 2021
One of many reveals shown today at the PC Gaming Show showed of developer Frontier Development's next expansion to its popular space-sim, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, Expected to come to PC, PS4 and Xbox One next year.
Announced earlier this month, the new expansion will focus on planetary exploration on foot. No longer tied to a ground vehicle, players can exit their ships and explore all the planets within the game on a whole new level. NPC driven quests involving diplomacy, commerce, and even combat will make up the majority of the expansion but Frontier Development hasn’t stopped there. New, undiscovered planets have been added to the game with secrets abound that will test even the most seasoned commander.
Like past expansions, the content can be enjoyed with friends too. To help with those who are looking to restock, recruit, and partake on new quests, public outposts are being scattered throughout the galaxy where players can mingle with each other. These social hubs promise to help breathe life within Elite Dangerous, no word yet if there will be differently sized outposts as with the current docking stations. Combat will be FPS based with a variety of weapons and gear to equip take on enemies and other players within the game
Since its full release in 2014, Elite Dangerous has quickly grown from a passion-driven Kickstarter project to a living breathing space-sim with thousands of players logging in daily. Each expansion has added significant changes to the overall game experience.
