Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Documentary Getting Wide Distribution Release
With the recent announcement of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 and the constant clamoring for a new entry in the popular Skate franchise, it's no secret that players love skateboarding games. Now it seems players will be able to gain new insight into the popular Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise with a new documentary coming later this year.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was a skateboarding game where players took control of Tony Hawk and other famous skateboarders. Developed by Neversoft and published by Activision, the original game launched on the PlayStation 1 in 1999, and was eventually ported to the Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Game Boy Color, and even the Nokia N-Gage. The game was wildly successful and led to 14 new games in the franchise, as well as a poorly received remake of the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
Now players can look forward to learning more about their favorite skateboarding franchise through an upcoming documentary called Pretending I'm A Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story. Directed by Ludvig Gür and produced by Ralph D'Amato, the documentary will show viewers the origins of the massively successful sports franchise. The film will also feature multiple interviews with Tony Hawk himself, as well as many other famous skaters involved in the project.
The name of the film is a reference to the song 'Superman' by Goldfinger which was one of the more popular songs from the Pro Skater soundtrack. Those that are interested in what the tone of the film will be can watch the almost 3 minute trailer available. If that isn't enough, viewers can also find a 2 minute long sneak peak of the documentary on the official website.
While the film was originally debuted during the Mammoth Film Festival back in February of this year, this will be the first time the documentary will be available for wide distribution. As of this writing, Pretending I'm A Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story has a score of an 8.8 out of 10 from users on IMDB, though that's out of a total of 12 reviewers. There currently isn't a confirmed release date, nor information on where it'll be available either. Fans of the franchise will just have to wait until more details become available to find out more.
