Canceled Pokemon MMO From 2004 Details Leak Online | Game Rant

A massive Gigaleak of canceled Nintendo games, properties, and other projects has surfaced, bringing players an incredible look to what might have been. Loads of fans have been wondering for years what a Pokemon MMO would need to look like, and players finally got a tiny glimpse into what could have been with one of the canceled games.

There's no doubt that a Pokemon MMO game would be a massive potential success. With rare Pokemon cards selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars, the franchise is still alive and well all over the world, and people still clamor to buy Pokemon games, merch, and other collectibles. So it was a massive surprise to many gamers to see a Pokemon MMO on the list of games that Nintendo had canceled in the Gigaleak.

Back in 2004, a development company called iQue was working on a massively multiplayer online role-playing game featuring Pokemon. The project was kept secret from fans. This now-defunct PC game would have used the Game Boy Advance as a controller and would have had an online and offline mode. This would have been a Generation 3 game based on Fire Red and Leaf Green.

Similar to the canceled Pokemon Yellow companion game called Pokemon Pink, fans will be disappointed to hear that a game like this was canceled. Fans have been calling for an MMO for years with a Pokemon theme, and it's a little heartbreaking to know one could have happened. And right in the middle of MMO heyday, when WoW was still vanilla, Everquest 2 just came out, and there were tons of MMOs on the market.

However, this is what may have lead to the death of this iQue game. Those old MMORPGs, some that are still around today, are big contenders for players' money. Perhaps it was too flooded a market, making Nintendo pull back on the idea.

The Gigaleak has also showed a canceled Super Castlevania 4, a Yoshi's Island, Mario All-Stars, Mario RPG, and several other canceled Nintendo prototypes. It's a massive amount of information that was uncovered, and people are still digging through the files to find out everything that Nintendo never got around to finishing back in 2004 and beyond.
