Fortnite: How Rare is the Golden Mushroom? | Game Rant
There's some weird fungi growing on the Battle Royale map for Fortnite. These stat-boosting Golden Mushroom spawns are pretty rare, however, but just how rare is the real question.
The Golden Mushrooms sprouted from the now-wet map of Fortnite, still covered in the water from the Season 3 Splashdown. Although not included in the patch notes or hinted at by the developers, players of the battle royale figured out pretty quickly what these golden mushrooms do: eating one gives a player 100 shield instantly, with no eating time required. This item is extremely good, but the spawn chance is very, very low.
The spawn chance of a Golden Mushroom on the map, according to @HYPEX on Twitter at least, is 0.0001%. That's literally one in a million. That makes this shield boost even more difficult to find than the Mythic Goldfish from Chapter 2 from autumn of last year. They don't even spawn in chests; players will have to find them out in the world instead. Sadly, this means that most players won't ever get to see one, most likely due how great the item is in-game.
Thankfully, players don't need a Golden Mushroom to complete the Season 3 Week 3 challenges this week in Fortnite, but a huge shield boost might from one might make them a little easier. The Golden Mushroom is incredibly powerful, so it's worth scouring the world for them, even if there's little chance of finding one.
Luckily for players, they will most likely be out and about on the map anyway, collecting this week's XP Coins from all over the map. So make sure to keep an eye on the ground for these rare spawns. They are well worth picking up if anyone can find one. Maybe these will get a little easier to find once some of the water retreats and leaves a little more land available, but there's no tell how long the Golden Mushroom spawns will be around.
Hopefully Fortnite players will get the chance to grab one before Chapter 2 Season 4 starts up when these rare spawns will most likely go away for good.
Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, Switch, mobile devices, and Xbox One.
