Latest iOS 14 Beta Hints at 5.4 Inch iPhone | Game Rant
Each year, Apple releases a slate of new devices, and in the lead up to those releases, fans constantly speculate as to what they could be. While a new iPhone is a guarantee each year, leaks and rumors throughout the year continue to drive interest. Recent updates are sustaining that trend, as it seems the latest iOS 14 beta may hide some clues pointing to a 5.4 inch iPhone, according to 9to5Mac, though the situation is a bit complicated.
Apple's iPhones feature a Display Zoom feature which allows vision-impaired users to adjust the size of UI elements. The feature effectively mimics the interface of other screen sizes to work, so, a user on a 5.5 inch iPhone would have the same display as a user on a 4.7 inch iPhone with Display Zoom turned on.
However, the iPhone X doesn't feature Display Zoom due to it only being released in one size. That is until iOS 14 Beta 3, which now features a Display Zoom setting for the device, as well as the XS and 11 Pro. 9to5Mac forced an iPhone Simulator to run at a resolution of 960 x 2079 pixels, which displayed the interface correctly on the device and would equate to a 5.4 inch screen for an iPhone. When running the simulator on other resolutions, they would reportedly crash.
This all means that fans can likely expect the rumored smaller iPhone 12 to be true, though it should still be taken with a grain of salt. Apple's larger iPhone sizes haven't been poorly received, but there are still those that want a phone smaller than the 5.8 inch iPhone 11 Pro. Rumor has it that Apple could debut four new iPhone models in 2020, with sizes ranging from 5.4 to a massive 6.7 inches.
Again, that should all be taken with a grain of salt. The coronavirus pandemic has affected multiple companies, and Apple is one of them. Plus, Apple is making changes to become carbon neutral, shifting manufacturing to more heavily incorporate recycled materials, and slowdowns to global supply chains or issues recycling phones could, in theory, cause issues with the lineup.
Fans will have to wait for more announcements from Apple to be sure, but the evidence is pretty compelling, though certainly a bit confusing.
