Trials Of Mana: The Best Ability Set-Up For Each Party Member

Fans probably know SquareEnix for its Final Fantasy franchise. Well, it produced another popular series with almost as many games. That is the Seiken Densetsu series—or the Mana series, as it is known in the United States. This series first became popular with the 1993 game Secret of Mana for Super Nintendo. In 1995, SquareEnix made a sequel to it, but it was not released in America...until recently.

In 2019, it finally came out in America for the Nintendo Switch, and it was called Trials of Mana. Just three months ago, it was released again but with 3D graphics.

Like its predecessor, Trials of Mana lets players take three characters on an adventure that involves swords, sorcery, monsters, goblins and dragons. Each character has a unique set of abilities, and these abilities can be augmented by assigning different Classes to the characters. This is similar to the Class system in the popular role-playing game series Dungeons and Dragons. This article will list all the Trials of Mana characters and the best classes to assign to them so as to maximize their abilities.

6 Duran

Duran is a devoted knight, loyal to his kingdom. He is also very spirited; that is, he is always full of energy and ready for battle. Known for his skills with a sword, he makes a great attacker in any party. Also, he has a romantic history with Angela.

Since Duran's specialty is physical attacks, player should assign him classes that maximize these abilities.

He begins the game with the Warrior class. When he reaches Level 18, he gets to pick a new one. Players should assign him the class of Gladiator, which makes his attacks stronger at the beginning of all battles.

When he reaches Level 38, he gets a choice of another advanced class. The best choice for him is the Edelfrei class. This increases his weapon efficiency, and this adds value to his natural excellence with weapons.

5 Charlotte

Charlotte is a part-elf, part-human Cleric. She is full of joy and spirit, yet superstitious and sometimes clumsy. While her appearance reminds players of the sprite character from this game's predecessor, her abilities remind them of those of the girl character. She makes herself useful as a healer for any party. Also, her narrative is intertwined with that of Kevin.

For her second class, players should make her a Priestess. As such, her Class Strike meter will increase every time she casts a healing spell. Players will use her healing spells often; by making her a Priestess, she will naturally get to use Class Strike attacks more frequently.

When she reaches Level 38, the best choice for her next class is Sage. This makes her antifragile to magic attacks; that is, when she receives damage caused by magic, her own magic abilities get stronger.

4 Angela

A born magician, Angela received little attention from her mother, who was busy with her duties as a queen. As a result, she became a troublemaker urchin, desperate for attention. Also, Angela never really mastered the ability to use magic. Nonetheless, she is a valuable magic wielder as a member of any party in the game.

The best choice for Angela's second class is Mysticist. This makes her antifragile, like Charlotte as a Sage. As  a Mysticist, Angela's magic abilities become more powerful when any of her allies die.

When she reaches Level 38, her optimal class is Grand Diviner. As such, she regains all of her magic points (MP) after a successful battle. As a character whose best abilities are her magical ones, this comes in handy.

3 Hawkeye

Not to be confused with the Avengers character, Hawkeye is an orphan who was raised by desert bandits. He uses his unique wit whenever he interacts with people. After all, as a Thief, he relies on his wit (and his luck) to survive. So, he is hard to peg, but when he makes friends and allies, he protects them and never lets them down.

When he reaches Level 18, players should make him a Ranger. As a Ranger, whenever he uses an item, there is a one-in-ten chance that it will remain in inventory. Not only is this economical, but it's like a fun little lottery with no chance of loss!

For an advantage in physical battles, players should make Hawkeye a Nightblade when he reaches Level 38. This makes it more likely that he will get lucky and kill some enemies with one attack. Aside from obvious benefits, this adds a degree a chance to the gameplay, making it more fun!

2 Riesz

Riesz has much in common with Duran. She is strong, she is skilled with weapons, and she is a soldier. Also, like Duran, she stays loyal to the nation she protects. More so than her nation, however, she is loyal to her family. As an Amazon, she excels naturally in all physical abilities. She also has a connected story with Hawkeye.

The best choice for Riesz's second class is Valkyrie. This sets it up so that her Class Strike meter goes up a little every time she lands an attack. She is already a great fighter, but as a Valkyrie, she is even better.

Players should make Riesz a Nightlancer when she reaches Level 38. This way, any magical status boosters she gets will last longer. With a strong magical ally—such as Charlotte or Angela—to cast these boosters, this comes in handy.

1 Kevin

Kevin might remind players of Gau from SquareEnix's popular game Final Fantasy 6. He is a feral, half-human beast, who lacks the social graces of civilized society. So, he comes off as disagreeable and unapproachable to others. However, he is incredibly strong and an excellent fighter.

Kevin is a excellent choice for a strong physical ally. However, to make him even better, players should make him a Monk when he reaches Level 18. Similar to Charlotte as a Sage and Angela as a Mysticist, Kevin as a Monk becomes antifragile: he becomes more powerful if any of his allies die.

For his third class, players should make him a Divine Fist. As a Divine Fist Fist, his Class Strike meter goes up every five seconds during battle.
