Persona: The 10 Strongest Female Characters, Ranked | Game Rant
In the Persona series, players can meet and recruit multiple male and female characters. While some will join your cause, others stand against the game's lead characters. Some of these women prove to be strong adversaries while others hold godlike power.
With that being said, the women in the Persona series offer a variety of powerful combat abilities. But perhaps more importantly than that is the strength that lies within their heart. Whether through their combat abilities or through the strength to defy their fate, this top ten list will delve into some of the strongest women featured in Atlus' legendary JRPG series. Please be mindful of the spoilers for Persona 3-5.
10 Haru Okumura
Young Haru Okumura was the daughter of the Okumura Foods' President. When he tried to marry her off to a wealthy man, she recruited the Phantom Thieves to save her. Upon the defeat of Okumura, he was killed by a mental shutdown. Later, the killer confronts the Phantom Thieves, Haru included.
In battle, Haru is capable of powerful Psychokinetic attacks. However, she has strength of heart to match. Even after her father's killer's defeat, acknowledging she couldn't forgive him, she could not bring herself to hate him. Seeing he was a victim of the same man that ordered her father dead, Haruchose to avoid the easy path of vengeance.
9 Yoshizawa
Gymnast and honor student, Yoshizawa, tried her hardest through school. Even when being mocked for her honor student privilege, she had to work extra hard to gain the approval of her school. Even a slight mishap in her gymnast placing would cause the ever strict Shujin Academy to revoke her status.
However, she had spent much of her social link relying on Joker for support. An athlete and a perfectionist, she's both a gymnast, and later a Persona user, whose abilities became crucial to saving Joker. During the heist in a late-game palace, she saves the Phantom Thieves' leader from an enemy ambush.
8 Futaba Sakura
The shut-in, Futaba, experienced horrible mental and emotional trauma upon the onset of her teenage years. Witnessing her mother's death, she was blamed by men in suits for murdering her. Once she recruits the Phantom Thieves' aid, she begins to stitch her wounded heart back together after standing up against the cognitive monster that formed within her palace.
Futaba experiences strong emotional and mental growth throughout both her social link and the storyline. She gains the courage to do everyday tasks. Moreover, it becomes crucial to level up her social link with or without romancing her. Among her strongest weapons includes her hacking skills. She even shut down a national hacking threat called Medjed.
7 Chidori Yoshino
Member of Strega, Chidori was part of the enemy group attempting to bring rise to The Fall, which would destroy the world. However, when party member, Junpei Iori, meets her, he falls head over heels. After an incident puts her in the hospital, she cannot use her Persona or escape. While being interrogated by Mitsuri and the Kirijo group, Junpei visits her in order to spend time and bond with her.
Chidori enjoys drawing and begins to warm up to Junpei over time. However, when Strega breaks her out of the hospital, she begins distancing herself and even fights the party once more. Any attempt to separate from the members of SEES was met with resistance from Junpei. In the end, Takaya, attempts to kill Junpei only for Chidori to sacrifice her life. Dying in Junpei's arms, her own soul becomes one with Junpei's Persona, awakening him to great power.
6 Makoto Niijima
Honor student of Shujin Academy, Makoto is initially charged with exposing the Phantom Thieves. Her purpose in life was to follow orders from adults and get recommended to a good school so she could continue her education. However, she could not let injustices in Shibuya slide as criminals exploited young people.
Opting to throw away her honor student reputation, Makoto recruited the Phantom Thieves to stop the crime boss, Kaneshiro. Even boldly going alone to confront him, Makoto was willing to give up everything just to confront a dangerous criminal. Along with her physical prowess and her badass appearance, the Queen might be the strongest fighter of the Phantom Thieves.
5 Naoto Shirogane
Detective Prince of Inaba, this young student was viewed as a prodigy. Admired by her fans, she was capable of working with the police to solve cases despite still being in high school. Much like Makoto, Naoto's boldness leads her into enemy hands and becomes a crucial part of the Investigation Team solving the disappearances in Inaba.
Naoto struggles with her identity. Despite being a woman, she had to disguise herself as a male just to be respected by her seniors in a male-dominated occupation. In the end, she accepted herself and would work with the Investigation Team in order to uncover the truth. Naoto is not just a headstrong girl but also powerful in battle. Her lack of weaknesses, combined with the high-level spells she starts with, makes her a staple for battles once you recruit her. However, players may need to speed up leveling up proper social stats in order to boost her social link before the game's end due to how late she joins.
4 Aigis
First discovered on a beach by the male members of SEES, Aegis takes an immediate liking to the protagonist. However, the truth later comes out that she wanted to protect him. Despite being an android, she felt guilty for harboring the spirit of Death within him and opted to protect him.
Aegis starts off as an android who eventually gains human emotions and feelings. Her desire to be with the protagonist blossoms into true love and she even becomes a romance option. Despite being a powerful battle weapon, armed to the teeth with heavy artillery, she also cares greatly for her teammates.
3 Marie
Marie starts off as an NPC in Persona 4 Golden. This gloomy, emo girl writes poetry and becomes an attendant in the Velvet Room along with Margaret. However, her story becomes motivated by wanting to stay close to Yu Narukami and recovering her memories. While she can become a social link Marie does not join the party.
Unfortunately, Marie's tale takes a dark turn when she attempts to disappear within the Midnight Channel's forest. As the party reaches her, she orders them to stay back before transforming into a powerful Kusumi-no-Okami. Once the party reaches her, she thanks them for their aide and remains a valuable ally. Despite her dangerous, godlike power, she uses it to help restore the world within the end.
2 Izanami
In terms of raw power, Izanami might be the most powerful woman in the series. This deity was responsible for creating the gods of fog that threatened Inaba and had planned to plunge the world into shadow. However, the final boss of Persona 4 was uncovered thanks to the aid of the Velvet Room and the Investigation Team. Izanami challenged the team to do battle to prove humanity's worth in survival.
This powerful goddess created the Midnight Channel and plunged men into madness. She concluded Yu, her potential third victim, as an anomaly and chose to cast him out. After an epic battle, she chose to leave and let humanity decide the world's fate.
1 Attendants Of The Velvet Room
Whether it's Elizabeth, Theodore, Margaret, Justine & Caroline, or Lavenza, the attendants of the Velvet Room always hold considerable power. They're the primary source of aid for the protagonist, proxies of Igor, and can fuse his Personas to create more powerful entities. Despite this, they're friendly to the protagonist, seeking to aid him, learn about his world, and even warming up to him intimately depending on the player's actions.
What makes them powerful, however, is their status as bosses in the game. In each Persona title, they are the true superboss of the game. No matter how powerful the foe the player faces to save the world, the attendants always give the player the greatest challenge. Perhaps the best example of their strength lies in Persona 4 Arena when Elizabeth sent Erebus, the final boss of Persona 3 FES, spiraling away with a single attack.
