Red Dead Redemption 2: The Pagan Ritual Mystery Explained
One of the hallmark features of Red Dead Redemption 2 is its vast open-world environment that appears to be filled with just about anything. Ever since its launch back in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 has offered players several mysteries and secrets from the disappearance of a crowd in Saint-Denis theater to the truth behind an Indian Mystery Burial Site.
Now, another popular mystery in Red Dead Redemption 2 has something to do about what appears to be a Pagan Ritual Site. To find it, players must simply head to the Big Valley in West Elizabeth where they will discover the Pagan Ritual point of interest. For those having difficulty finding it in Red Dead Redemption 2, players must simply head North West of the Owanjila Dam where they will see the Pagan Ritual site in an open area not far from the Western border of the map. Upon reaching the location, players will witness a gruesome scene where a decapitated body is located at the center of the site, with its upper half impaled on a pole.
It is still unknown who exactly is behind the killings that are continuously occurring in the Pagan Ritual Site. If the Arthur removes the Pagan Skull Mask off the corpse and wears it as an interactive item, a new corpse painted with symbols will be at the site, lying in a pool of blood. From what can be seen in the site, it appears to be the workings of a murderous practitioner/s of some sort of ritual. Based on the markings found on the site and other nearby locations, many players believe the rituals to be related to voodoo.
Although it remains unclear who exactly is behind the rituals, many players believe that the Night Folk could be the ones performing it. As previously mentioned, the Pagan Ritual Site and its nearby surroundings contain some mysterious markings that appear to be voodoo sigils, which can also be found in other territories of the Night Folk such as in Lakay. Also, players may notice that the symbol found on the ground is very similar to the vevé of the voodoo loá Papa Legbá, who is the entity believed by the Night Folk to be the one guarding the doors between the real world and the netherworld. This could mean that the Night Folk are also operating in regions outside their main territory, but Arthur won't actually see the ritual first hand so the Pagan Ritual site still remains a mystery.
Upon reaching the Pagan Ritual Site the first time, players must remove the Pagan Skull Mask from the corpse. The corpse must also be removed from the stake and placed in front of the small statue in the North of the circle, specifically the one with what appears to be an X marking on it. There are four X markings around the Pagan Ritual Site. After a couple of days, players must head back to the site and it is there that they should see a somewhat mummified corpse, which appears to be different than the decapitated corpse that was placed there.
After triggering the mummified corpse, players must hunt down a person that will serve as a sacrifice in the Pagan Ritual Site. It is worth noting that the person must be alive when brought to the site, and players must lay the person down on one of the other X markings and shoot them in the head. At this point, players will need to find three other people to sacrifice, filling up three of the four X's, and the fourth person will be placed in the middle.
It is also worth knowing that every time the player brings a new victim, the mummified corpse will change appearance drastically. After completing the ritual and sleeping for a few days in-game, players will notice that all the corpses have been mysteriously mummified and have the same markings as the original corpse, which suggests that after the player has left all these corpses there, someone performed the mysterious ritual.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
