Zachary Levi Can't Say Much About Shazam! 2, Except for the Title

Shazam! is, unexpectedly, one of the best films to come out of the DC cinematic universe so far. It carries so much heart and soul on top of its colorful charm and lively characters that it may just be one of the best superhero films to come out recently. During DC FanDome, Shazam himself, Zachary Levi, dropped by to let fans know that they aren't allowed to say anything about the movie.

The one thing Levi and other cast members was allowed to reveal was the film's title: Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The full cast list of the film has been unknown up to this point, but it seems reasonable to expect a return for Billy Batson's adoptive family, and perhaps even a cameo from Sinbad, who had a fun guest appearance during the panel, referencing how the actor is often misremembered as the star of the similarly-titled film Kazaam.

It is currently unclear how the Shazam! sequel plans to fit into the continuity of the extended DC universe, especially with the course correction of DC's previous plans. During the first film's launch, things were already in doubt, with Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in particular being rumored to have left the roles of Superman and Batman. Despite this, the first film featured several references to other heroes, including Batman and Superman, the latter of which appears in the after-credits scene with his face conspicuously out of shot. With Ben Affleck having been confirmed for at least one more appearance as the Dark Knight however, it seems anything is possible.

Shazam! 2 was meant to follow hot off the heels of the first movie's success, with Zachary Levi suggesting that plans were in motion to begin production by early summer of 2020. This was before the Coronavirus pandemic however, and things are now harder to pin down, but the film still has time to begin filming and still meet its initial release date of November 2022. Hopefully things will be able to move along safely, and the film can begin production soon, which would make sure audiences can return to Billy Batson's charming adventures as soon as possible.

Shazam! 2 is scheduled to be released to theaters in November of 2022.
