Fallout 4: Human Error - A Step By Step Quest Guide | Game Rant

Few RPG franchises have quests as memorable as the Fallout franchise. Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that never developed transistors, Fallout is all about how humanity behaves after the world goes south. Tough moral choices and heavy roleplaying are a core part of the franchise.

Despite Fallout 4 removing many RPG aspects compared to past entries, it still has a plethora of memorable quests for players to embark on. One of the most memorable quests is "Human Error" where players investigate a missing caravan from a cult-like town named Covenant. It is one of the few quests that have skill checks and moral decisions to make. Here is a complete guide for completing the "Human Error" quest in Fallout 4.

9 Enter Covenant

"Human Error" begins when players enter Covenant for the first time and talk to Honest Dan. To find Covenant, head east of Mystic Pines on the northern end of the Commonwealth. The town is easy to spot, being the only customizable settlement in the game that has concrete walls and turrets pre-installed.

8 Complete The SAFE Test

Upon reaching Covenant, players will be forced to take the SAFE test from Swanson. This test asks the player a few questions about how they would behave in a certain scenario to confirm they aren't a synth. Those that have played Fallout 3 will immediately notice that this is the G.O.A.T. test with the tenth question omitted. Don't worry about which answers are correct; it is impossible to fail the SAFE test despite what Swanson says. Complete the test to make it inside.

7 Speak To Honest Dan

Find Honest Dan in Covenant and talk to him. He will mention a missing caravan and the disappearance of Amelia Stockton. Dan will split the reward with players if they help with the investigation. After accepting, Dan will give players the details of the caravan's disappearance.

6 Investigate For Clues

Head to the northeast outside of Covenant and follow the road. The caravan can be found destroyed with the bodies of Fred O'Connell and various bodyguards. Inspect the area and take Deezer's lemonade. Strangely, this is one of the only quests in Fallout 4 that allows for a skill check. If a player has six Preception or higher, they can inspect a blood trail and deduce it leads to Covenant. Questioning the locals will reveal nothing.

Regardless, return to Covenant and head to the house at the far end of the settlement. Inside will be a holding cell and a locked terminal. Players can inspect the radio with nine Luck to get it working temporarily, although this gives little useful information. Crouch to prevent angering the locals, then hack the terminal in the building. For those that can't hack the lock, they can find the password in the first house to the left of the gate on a table. Once hacked, the player will learn that outsiders are taken to a compound.

5 Find The Compound

Before finding the compound, players can choose to talk to Honest Dan first and ask for his assistance. He will meet players at the compound should they talk to him. As for finding the compound itself, head west of Covenant and enter the outflow tunnel at the body of water. Head inside and clear out the bodyguards as if it was any other dungeon. Towards the end, players will uncover what happened to Amelia Stockton.

4 Meet Dr. Roslyn Chambers

Towards the end of the dungeon lies Dr. Roslyn Chambers and Amelia Stockton. It turns out that the missing outsiders have been taken to this compound to be killed. Those that took the SAFE test and were deemed as synths were brought to Dr. Roslyn Chambers to be killed. She is responsible for the SAFE test and wants to improve its accuracy to rat out any synths that wish to infiltrate Covenant. Of course, she believes that Amelia Stockton is a synth. She offers the player a choice: they can either kill Amelia and Honest Dan, if he's with the player, or refuse and kill Roslyn.

3 Decide The Fate Of Amelia

Completing this quest hinges on what happens to Amelia. Players can either trust Dr. Roslyn and kill her or kill the doctor herself. Note that killing Amelia will turn Honest Dan hostile. Consequently, siding with Amelia will turn the entirely of Covenant hostile when the player returns.

2 Siding With The Doctor

Siding with Roslyn will force the player to kill Honest Dan. Inspecting Amelia's body will reveal that the doctor was correct and that she is a synth. Return to Jacob in Covenant to receive payment. This will complete the quest. Covenant will now be a settlement for players to build at and connect with other Minutemen settlements.

1 Freeing Amelia

Freeing Amelia will force the player to kill Dr. Roslyn Chambers and everyone at Covenant when the player returns. Amelia will direct the player to Old Man Stockton for payment. Note that in order to make Covenant a buildable location, players must kill all hostile members of Covenant upon returning.

For anyone that wishes to free Amelia without killing anyone, they must talk to Amelia without Honest Dan accompanying the player. Skip the doctor entirely while walking towards Amelia and she will direct players to Old Man Stockton. This will count as the player having saved her without angering Covenant.
