Fox Sports Uses Fall Guys Clip to Make Fun of Atlanta Falcons
A new NFL season has begun, turning Sundays into their own sort of American holiday. This weekend is no different, and the Sunday morning match between the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons has inspired a crossover with popular battle royale game Fall Guys.
The Falcons had a bad day. At the start of the third quarter, they held an impressive lead over the Cowboys. However, Dallas came all the way back, bringing the game to within just two points as time ran short. The Falcons held an advantage throughout the game, even approaching its end, but a last-minute maneuver took that victory away.
Fox Sports NFL's Twitter account posted a video that shows a Fall Guys match set on Tip Toe, which features a 10x10 grid with a secret path from start to finish hidden among the panels. The main player, who represents the Falcons, is ahead of the pack and appears to have a clear path to victory. There's no more mystery, as the path to the finish has been revealed, and there aren't any other players that could troll them and mess up their finish. The only way to lose is to make a huge mistake, which is what the player does — a clear parallel to the Falcons.
Onside kicks in the NFL used to be surprisingly successful tactic, with kicking teams winning back the ball around 20 percent of the time. Since a rule change in 2018, however, that numbers dropped to below six percent. Yet, that's exactly what the Dallas Cowboys did when the team was two points down and time was running out. It executed an onside kick successfully, and then drove the ball down the field to claim a field goal as time ran out. The Cowboys won the game 40 to 39, after being down 20 points at the half.
Fox Sports' Twitter comment seems an opportune way for Fall Guys players to empathize with football fans. Just about every Fall Guy player has had a round where victory seemed assured and a mistake led to a loss, whether it's having a tail stolen suddenly, having another team score a golden ring to jump ahead in score at the last second, or simply forgetting to press the jump button. Now, if the NFL adds slime and seesaws, the parallels could be even more clear.
This may mark a trend for Fox's NFL media presence, as sharing memes can be a good way to drive engagement. Perhaps fans can expect to see the account put together something crossing over with Among Us, another multiplayer game that's currently all the rage.
Fall Guys is available now on PC and PS4.
