Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris’ Secret Ending Has Only Been Unlocked by a Single Player
The action RPG Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is the first video game adaptation of the popular anime series Sword Art Online. Recently, it was revealed that only one player in the world has unlocked the game's secret ending.
On September 19, there was a livestream for Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris with the game’s Producer Yousuke Futami and Medina cosplayer Sayuki. Futami notified players of the game's 1.09 update, which brought various improvements to frame rate and balancing gameplay, and said only one player in the world unlocked the Medina route and Lycoris Ending.
It’s not new for video games to have secrets endings in their campaigns, particularly those unlocked after a major achievement. The recent Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time has a secret ending, which caught fans of the series off-guard. Futami said the game’s developer Aquria had the ending set before release, and tracking players’ data it was able to tell who unlocked this secret.
There are a few hints to Medina’s route and foreshadowing for the Lycoris Ending, much to the surprise of some players. This isn't new to video games, which have a history of secret endings that sometimes few players ever stumbled upon. With the release of the 1.09 patch, the Medina route and Lycoris Ending will apparently be easier to reach than before.
Video games are no strangers to unlocking secrets through major achievements. Whether it’s secret endings, secret items and weapons, or even a few secret characters, there’s always a possibility for players to find something new in their games.
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
