The Witcher 3: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Romance Side Quests

The Witcher 3 primarily focuses on Geralt killing monsters, solving mysteries, and, of course, looking for Ciri and later fighting the Wild Hunt that's after Ciri. All in all, Geralt and the other characters in the game stay pretty busy since dangers and challenges hide behind almost every corner.

However, even the busiest person alive needs some time off, and that's when romances come into play. Throughout the game, Geralt has the option to pursue multiple love interests, some temporary, some lasting longer. But the main choice that lies ahead of him is to decide whether he wants to stay with Yennefer or Triss. Every player knows this, but there are still some facts about the romances in the game that might not be familiar to everyone.

10 Triss: It's No Longer Possible To Fool Around With Her

In the older versions of the game, it was possible for Geralt to make love to Triss in the lighthouse, and still end up with Yennefer. When Triss was about to leave if Geralt told her: Let's try again, she would come back and they would end up in the lighthouse, enjoying their private moment. However, this option no longer works and the only way for Triss to stay is Geralt telling her he loves her, which effectively ties Triss to him.

9 Triss: Geralt Later References The Lighthouse

Later in the game, if Geralt chose Triss and told her he loved her, they reunite as a couple. They're readying to go and fight the Wild Hunt but there's still a possibility for them to have a short private moment together before they'll go their separate ways again. In the private moment, the player has the option to let Geralt reference their time in the lighthouse, to which Triss responds with a sort of delighted embarrassment — and it creates an inner joke between the two.

8 Triss: Geralt Needs To Kiss Her In The Maze

Finally, for the relationship between Geralt and Triss to work, Geralt needs to do several things. During the quest A Matter of Life and Death, he needs to kiss her in the garden maze. If he doesn't, he won't later be able to romance her during the quest Now or Never. Speaking of, to take their relationship into another level, Geralt needs to help Triss save her fellow mages in Now or Never and make sure they get out of Novigrad. Once that's done, Geralt has to decide whether to ask Triss to stay with him or not. If he lets her go with the mages, any chance of a romance between them is done.

7 Yennefer: Choosing The Right Outfit

Triss isn't the only person in whose case certain requirements need to be met before Geralt can successfully romance her. During the quest The King is Dead - Long Live the King, Geralt should choose fancy clothes in black and white — since these two are Yennefer's favorite colors.

And when Geralt's given the chance to escape the room filling with poisoned gasses, he should kiss Yennefer and she'll transport them into the privacy of her room where they'll make good use of her stuffed unicorn.

6 Yennefer: Breaking Her Heart

There's an option for the player to have Geralt break Yennefer's heart in the quest The Last Wish, but if they want them to stay together, they should let Geralt tell Yennefer that his feelings hadn't changed, just like hers didn't. The good news is that even if Geralt refuses Yennefer, she'll still come to Kaer Morhen to help him, Ciri, and the rest of their allies fight the Wild Hunt. However, the chance for a relationship between them will be over by then. It's also important to note that sometimes the quest The Last Wish can happen fairly early in the game, so it's good to know soon if the player wants Geralt to pick Yennefer or Triss.

5 Keira Metz: Three Possible Destinies

The good news is that if Geralt chooses to romance the sorceress Keira Metz, it won't have any impact on his relationship with Yennefer or Triss. Keira is the first romantic interest in the game and before Geralt can romance her, he needs to complete several quests for her. Keira them rewards him by organizing a romantic dinner and she spends the night with Geralt. However, he later finds out she was using him and has three choices — to kill her, let her go to Radovid, or persuade her to go to Kaer Morhen. Only the third choice will ensure Keira's survival. But another good news is that even if she dies, the player can still defeat the Wild Hunt without her.

4 Jutta An Dimun: Two Choices

During his travels at Skellige and the quest Iron Maiden, Geralt can come across Jutta an Dimun, a young woman who's a fierce warrior. Jutta seeks a man who would be able to best her in combat. When she finds such a man, she'll spend the night with him. Geralt has the option to fight her and if he wins, Jutta will invite him into her house. Spoiler alert — they won't be playing cards. However, there are two possible outcomes of Geralt's visit.

In one, they make love. In the other, they just talk and he tries to convince Jutta to look for a suitable partner in other parts of Skellige. Also, if Geralt refuses her offer to fight her and says he'll come back later, Jutta will withdraw the offer, so it's best to fight her straightaway.

3 Brothels: Two Prices, Two Experiences

Geralt is rather busy in Novigrad, considering how many quests he has to finish, but he can still find time to go to a brothel if he so chooses. If the player is willing to let Geralt depart with his painfully earned coin, there are two brothels for him to choose from. One is called Crippled Kate's and the other one is called Passiflora. Passiflora is much more expensive but they will also give a warmer welcome to Geralt than in Crippled Kate's — because he's a witcher.

2 Shani: Give Her The Flowers

Funnily enough, even if Geralt gets together with Triss or Yennefer in the main game, he can still romance his old friend Shani in the DLC Hearts of Stone, and it won't affect his relationship in any way. Shani asks Geralt to go to a friend's wedding with her, and he should accept. Once there, when Shani gets sad, Geralt can try to cheer her up by giving her a gift. However, he should give her the flowers she likes — the rowan berries. Even though there's an option to bring her alcohol as a gift, it's better to keep Shani away from it if Geralt wants to have a nice evening.

1 Yennefer: Kisses Geralt At Kaer Morhen

Finally, the players who chose Yennefer as Geralt's love might not realize it, but once Yennefer, Geralt, and Ciri all reunite at Kaer Morhen, Yennefer kisses Geralt. Funny fact is she does it even if Geralt chose Triss and broke up with Yen earlier. In other words — Yennefer kisses Geralt right in front of Triss, the woman he potentially chose. Luckily for all of them, Triss takes it in good humor.
