Apex Legends Developer Confirms Plans to Create Real-Time Damage Meter
Players of Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends have been treated to several updates for the game lately. Most recently, it was announced that starting on October 6, players will be able to participate in the Apex Legends Crossplay Beta, allowing them the first opportunity to play with friends on other systems. Now it seems that Respawn has tipped its hand a bit at another improvement it is looking to implement in the game.
Jason McCord, Design Director at Respawn, stated on Twitter that the team is looking to implement an in-game damage meter for Apex Legends. This active meter would allow players to keep track of how much damage they've dealt throughout the match, rather than having to wait until the results screen after they've exited the game.
McCord confirmed that this in-game tracker is “on a list” after receiving a tweet from a player asking if it was something Respawn would consider implementing. The player had tweeted that it was disappointing when a match was over only to find that they were 25 damage away from unlocking the badge for dealing 4,000 damage in a match. This system could likely also assist players who are wondering how much health their opponents currently have, granted they can do quick math.
Respawn has been extremely transparent lately in regards to what the team is currently working on and what it hopes to work on in the future. Notably, the developer gave players an update on the upcoming Nintendo Switch version of the game, confirming that it was still being worked on and hasn’t been canceled.
While some players are wondering about the Switch version of Apex Legends, others are more interested in another version that could be coming soon. A recent job listing on Respawn Entertainment’s website seemed to confirm that a mobile version of Apex Legends is currently in development. While the listing only stated that it would be responsible for mobile games, the post was filed under the Apex Legends section, causing players to speculate.
Players of the battle royale seem quite invested in the game’s future, for both veterans and new players alike. One Apex Legends player even took to Reddit with the idea of implementing a hero rotation so new players coming to the game would have an easier time learning more than just the base legends. It seems that with such a dedicated developer and player base, Apex Legends has a long life ahead of it.
Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version currently in development.
