Dr Disrespect Thinks Black Ops Cold War Should Include Fan-Favorite Perk
Discussion around the Dead Silence perk has resurfaced, as fans debate why it may be necessary for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Many veteran players, content creators, and community members are hoping to see the original perk return, bearing full silent footstep volume. Although Black Ops Cold War is rumored to include it, Treyarch has noted that it will be a slightly different version of the perk design that fans have not seen before.
Perks that reduce noise have been common in the Call of Duty franchise. The goal of the perk is to allow fans a stealth option so that players can sneak around maps and flank opposing teams. This opens the door to some advanced plays that normally aren't viable, due to footsteps and other noises.
Black Ops Cold War is expected to have Ninja, but the design has been tweaked slightly. The Alpha had a version that allowed players to "sprint more quietly," but that isn't fitting the need that many competitive players have. With the beta on the horizon, many community members have pointed out that a lack of a true "Dead Silence" perk may be a problem.
In a Tweet by Team Summertime's Davis 'Hitch' Edwards, he points out that mand of the best games had a full version of dead silence. The fact that Cold War does not have a silent footstep perk is an immediate concern, and Dr Disrespect agrees, stating "Blops 1 sound design was the best IMO."
Many fans are struggling to understand why the developers seem to be resisting change to the perk. It is clear that after the Alpha they were receptive to community feedback as Black Ops Cold War snipers have already seen adjustment ahead of release. While changes to weapons are clear, the developers have not made a statement regarding the perk.
Still, silent footsteps do not mean silent soldiers. As players navigate the map, they would still make faint sounds, like equipment shifting. Dr Disrespect points out in later tweets that these subtle noises would easily create a middle ground for sneaky players to get caught if they were not playing smart.
Despite community concerns, there is no way to know if Treyarch will make the change to the perk ahead of the game's release. The beta is starting on October 8th, and no doubt the conversation revolving around this specific perk will continue to be part of the weekend.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to release on November 13th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
