Modern Warfare Weapon Tuning Patch Is In The Works For VAL and SP-R 208
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 6 introduced two new weapons into the game that already have become a topic of community discussion. The AS VAL and SP-R 208 each came with unusual balance issues as players quickly learned when they deployed into Modern Warfare and Warzone.
After over a week of "broken" guns, there seems to be a fix on the horizon for fans. It is unknown exactly how the patch will affect each weapon, but in their current state, they bring a ton of different problems into the game. From Warzone fans showcasing the accuracy of the SP-R 208 to the bullet penetration seen in Modern Warfare with the AS VAL, fans will be happy to at least see a fix to some degree.
Ashton Williams is the Senior Communications Manager over at Infinity Ward. In a recent tweet, she revealed that a patch was being tested that will tune both the AS VAL and SP-R 208, presumably to balance them in line with the other weapons. Each of the guns has a unique problem inherent to how attachments scale certain stats on the guns. The AS VAL can penetrate up to seven walls and still impact opponents at full damage. Meanwhile, the SP-R 208 has hit-scan tier bullet speed with little to no bullet drop. This means that whatever a player aims at is instantly hit, making it a dangerous Warzone weapon for headshots.
Fan reaction to the balance news is mixed as some players are enjoying the SP-R 208's sniping capabilities. Although most players are in agreement that the guns are broken and unbalanced, there is still a section of the community that has been having fun dominating for once.
There does tend to be less of a defense for the AS VAl among fans as the bullet penetration his been proven to be game-breaking. Some game modes, like Search and Destroy, are unplayable due to early-round AS VAl bullets impacting players in their spawn.
While both the guns do have issues, it is reassuring to know that a patch is on its way. There is no predicted date, but based on the last time that Williams tweeted about a patch, it could easily be coming in the next few days.
Until then, players enjoying the broken weapons should take it in while they can as the patch will no doubt nerf the guns below meta. Activision and Infinity Ward are usually quick to balance weapons, but in some cases in the past, the weapons have been rendered unplayable as a result. It is unknown what state the guns will be in after the patch is released so fans should enjoy it while it is still around.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
