The world of the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is filled to the brim with details and it's own living breathing lore. The demonic-like Daedra play a deep role in this world, with their respective princes. Each providing players with a multitude of quests, artifacts, threats, and even new realms to explore.
One of the more powerful, present, and interesting Daedric Princes in Skyrim is Meridia. As character with a complicated past and detailed history, Meridia is one of the more interesting Daedric Princes to learn about, however it can be quite easy for players to miss some crucial facts.
10 Areas Of Influence
Each Daedric Prince has their own areas of influence, or spheres of power. These are the broad areas in which each deity seeks to direct in Skyrim's mortal world of Mundus. Meridia's areas of influence are life and energy, which provide her an especially unique interest, and importance, in mortal affairs.
9 Incomprehensible To Mortals
There are a total of 17 Daedric Princes, it is important to note that they are not all created equal. This is especially true when it comes to mortal's ability to comprehend them and their desires. Meridia can be considered one of the few Daedric Princes that is so complex and otherworldly that her actions, goals, and even existence go far beyond mortal comprehension.
8 Summoning Process
Meridia can be summoned on the 13th of the month Morning Star. Alternatively for the impatient Meridia can always be summoned by mortals by following a sacrificial ritual at one of the Daedric Prince's shrines.
Would be summoners must offer the Prince an organ or other anatomical object from the body of an undead creature in order to be deemed worthy of her time.
7 The Colored Rooms
Each Daedric Prince has their own realm, or realms they control. These are what they have created as aspects of themselves, and are usually reflective of the areas of influence they exercise in the mortal world. Meridia's realms are known as the Colored Rooms, in accordance with the mystery and complexity surrounding the Daedric Prince, very little is known about these dimensions. It can however be inferred that they have something to do with energy and life. The player unfortunately, does not have a chance to explore this location in the base game.
6 Physical Appearance
Meridia rarely shows her physical appearance, typically speaking to those that summon her through a disembodied voice via her statue or a bright orb. However when she has physically appeared to humans, she has been described as a beautiful woman with a glowing golden appearance. This appearance could be compared to a stereotypical angel in the real world.
5 Hatred Of The Undead
As the Daedric Prince of life and energy, Meridia has an unabashed and unforgiving hatred of the undead. She views these creatures with pure disdain, going so far as to reward mortals who slay them with great power. Conversely, Meridia seeks to punish and encourage the liquidation of mortals who work with the undead, namely necromancers.
4 Positive Perception Among Mortals
Videogames have as a storytelling medium, truly improved in recent years in presenting morally complex characters. Meridia can be considered a shining example of this. While her nature is not necessarily evil she did as a Daedra eventually turn against the creation of the mortal world. She does additionally easily put mortals in harms way without much regard for their lives.
Nonetheless, her initial support of the creation of the mortal realms, abhorrence to the undead, and angelic appearance have worked in her favor. Meridia, unlike most Daedric Princes, is viewed as benevolent in the eyes of most humans.
3 Originally An Aedra And Magna-Ge
One of the reasons that Meridia is considered to be good, and actually may be. is because she initially had supported the creation of the mortal world. She was originally an Aedra, or an original soul willing to create the world of Nirn. However she would turn against this plan after she and other Aedra came to the realization that they must give their lives for it to be realized.
After this realization she would flee Mundus with Magnus and be one of the Aedra who created the night sky and became one of it's stars. Eventually she would turn towards the Daedra and be cast away, becoming a Daedric Prince in her own right.
2 Daedric Artifacts
Like most other Daedric Princes, Meridia has her own unique artifacts that give mortals special powers. In previous installments, Meridia would provide players with a ring that would improve their stealth abilities. In Skyrim if the Dragonborn chooses to assist Meridia she will in turn provide them with the Dawnbreaker, a useful and unique sword that inflicts much higher damage against undead enemies.
1 Interaction With The Dragonborn
In Skyrim Meridia will engage the Dragonborn to assist her in killing the necromancer Malkoran who has been using the dead bodies from the Civil War for his sinister purposes. After slaying this necromancer Meridia will gift the Dragonborn with the aforementioned Dawnbreaker.
The most interesting fact about this meeting with Meridia however, is that the Daedric Prince will still seek out the Dragonborn and provide him with her gift, even if they happen to be a vampire. It seems Meridia's rule of despising all undead does not apply to the player character.
